Base Class: Artificer
The following subclass allows the artificer to forgo all notions of good and kindness in favour of learning the cruellest of crafts, the ability to harness the souls of demons and wicked spirits and forge new, grotesque bodies under your control.
(DM notes: This is very much a first draft currently)
Demonic Crafting
Starting at 3rd level, you gain the ability to forge demons, this process can take 24 hours to complete, you may use the bodies of any sentient creature to create a demon with the following stats;
Medium Demon:
STR - DEX - CON - INT - WIS - CHA
15 15 13 5 5 3
If any demon is reduced to 0 hitpoints, then it is destroyed and cannot be brought back by any means or healed.
Demons of all sizes have the same Initiative as the Artificer and take their turns immediately afterwards.
This demons outward appearance can be decided by yourself. This demon has a movement speed of 30ft, an AC of 13, 30 hitpoints and is considered a medium creature.
This demon cannot equip armour and may equip martial weapons.
You may sacrifice more bodies to give the demon one of the following mutations;
War Dog - This Demon gains proficiency with Martial Weapons
Wings - This demon gains a flying speed of 30ft.
Hardened skeleton - This demon gains +1 to all saving throws.
Eldritch brainwaves - This demons strength and dexterity becomes 4, it's intelligence becomes 15 and may cast 1 cantrip which you know as it's action.
Eldritch sight - This demon may use it's action to use detect magic once per day.
Extra Arms - This demon gains an extra attack (this can be taken twice).
Speedster - This demon increases it’s movement speed by 10ft.
Demonic Focus - This demon may increase it's constitution, strength or dexterity score by 1. (If this demon also has Eldritch Brainwaves, it may increase it's Intelligence by 1instead)
You may only have one demon following you and may not create more until the current one has been destroyed.
Discuss with your DM what you both believe to be the correct costs to craft a Demon and the mutations.
Demonic Diversity
Starting at 5th level, instead of creating one demon, you may create two demons with the following profile;
Small Demon:
STR - DEX - CON - INT - WIS - CHA
12 12 12 6 6 6
Each of these demons are considered small creatures, have an AC of 11, 10 hitpoints and a movement speed of 35ft.
These demons may not be given Mutations of any kind except wings.
These demons may not equip armour.
If you create a medium size demon however, it gains +1 to all it's stats, as well as a new AC of 15 and 35 total hitpoints
(Special Notes: These new stats replace the old ones and are not cumulative unless specified)
When you choose to forgo your turn for a demons, two small demons may make their turns instead of you.
When forgoing your turn for a demons, you may now move up to your movement speed and interact with objects.
Starting at 5th Level, you have two options and you can take either but not both on your turn.
You may move any demons you have as well as have them take actions as if your turn was forgone. Still having your turn as normal.
You may teleport one demon you have within 60ft of you to your location. That demon may then make a reaction until your next turn to intercept any and all attacks.
Both of these effects may be taken once and refresh on a short or long rest.
You may reduce your hitpoints by 1d8 as a bonus action. Any demons you control regain that many hit points hitpoints. They also gain +2 AC until the start of your next turn.
If you use this ability, then this damage cannot be healed by any means until you complete a long rest, you regain health as normal during a short or long rest.
See no evil, Hear no evil, Speak no evil.
When not in combat, your demons may make an automatic hide action. They are considered invisible except by truesight. They are immediately revealed when combat starts.
You may reduce your hitpoints by 10. Any demons you control regain 1d8 hitpoints. They also gain +2 AC until the start of your next turn.
If you use this ability, then you cannot be healed by any means until you complete a short or long rest, you regain health as normal during a short or long rest.
You may craft one additional medium or small demon, for a total of two medium demons or three small demons.
Army of Darkness
You may now craft the following;
Three Medium Demons
Four Small Demons
Two Small Demons and One Medium Demon
One Large Demon and One Small Demon
You may craft 2 mutations on any demon of your choosing, with the exception of Eldritch Brainwaves, which may be applied to one medium demon or small demon.
Use the following stats for demons when at the 20th level:
Medium Demon: Small Demon: Large Demon:
STR - DEX - CON - INT - WIS - CHA STR - DEX - CON - INT - WIS - CHA STR - DEX - CON - INT - WIS - CHA
16 16 15 7 7 3 12 12 13 8 7 3 21 10 21 2 2 2
*Eldritch Brainwaves changes a Medium demon or Small Demons Intelligence score to 18 and reduces the strength and dexterity to 8
Medium Demons have 50 hitpoints, an AC of 18, and has a movement speed of 30ft
Small Demons have 30 hitpoints, an AC of 14, and has a movement speed of 35ft
Large Demons have 110 hitpoints, an AC of 21 and has a movement speed of 25ft
Large Demons have a reach of 10ft with all melee weapons.
Large demons may also grant the following action;
Roll an intelligence check, on a 16+ the creature can become gigantic, increasing it's strength to a +10 modifier. However at the end of combat the creature is destroyed.
If the intelligence check is failed, all demons under your control are destroyed.
Tool Proficiency
When you adopt this specialization at 3rd level, you gain proficiency with Smith's Tools. If you already have this proficiency, you gain proficiency with one other type of artisan’s tools of your choice.
