Defensive Training
When you reach 3rd level, your combat training and your experiments with magic have paid off in two ways:
- You gain proficiency with heavy armour.
- When you attack while wearing your powered armour, you can use your Intelligence modifier, instead of Strength or Dexterity modifier, for the attack and damage rolls.
Powered Armour
At 3rd level you have managed to create a customized suit of armour designed specifically for you.
Your metallurgical pursuits have led to you making armor a conduit for your artificer magic. As an action, you can turn a suit of heavy armor you are wearing into power armor, provided you have smith’s tools in hand.
You gain the following benefits while wearing the power armor:
- If the armor normally has a Strength requirement, the power armor lacks this requirement for you.
- You can use the power armor as a spellcasting focus for your artificer spells.
- The power armor attaches to you and can’t be removed against your will. It also expands to cover your entire body, and it replaces any missing limbs, functioning identically to a body part it is replacing.
- You have integrated weaponry in your armour. Choose a weapon, you are now proficient with it and you can use your intelligence modifier when rolling attack and damage instead of Strength of Dexterity and the weapon's damage type changes to lightning or thunder damage (your choice). The weapon is part of your armour and you cannot be disarmed. When you stow the weapon it is concealed within a storage compartment in your armour. You can choose to replace your integrated weapon with a another weapon, including a magic weapon, by completing a 1 hour ritual.
- The can absorb some damage before you start to feel the effects of combat. The armour has hit points equal to twice your artificer level. As an action, you can repair the armour by 2d6 + your intelligence modifier hit points. Once you repair your armour, you can't repair it again until you complete a long rest. When you take a short rest, you can use your hit die to repair the armour instead of healing yourself. The armour regains all of its hit points after completing a long rest. At 15th level, you gain a second use of your Repair Armour feature.
The armor continues to be power armor until you doff it, you don another suit of armor, or you die.
