Base Class: Monk
Monks who follow the Way of the Spectral Hand have all experienced loss in their life. However, this loss is one of the most painful feelings possible to be felt by a person: the loss of a beloved. They spent many years wallowing in sadness, before all in their own ways, arriving at a monastery of the monks of the spectral hand. These monasteries helped people grieve with the loss of their loved ones, whether they be a partner, a close friend, a parent, a child, or even a very close animal companion. Through monastic rituals, the bereaved can meet their beloved from beyond the grave, and get final closure. Most only take it this far, however some choose to continue this path of devotion to their beloved and become monk of the spectral hand themselves.
These monks learn to connect with their beloved of their own power, and bring elements of their souls from beyond the grave to allow them to finish the tasks in life that they had left unfinished. Many of these monks will take journey and pilgrimages to allow their beloved to finish their work. Together the body and spirit of two beings become one, as they embark on a journey together to finish what was started.
Spectral Hands
Starting when you choose this tradition at level 3 you learn the mage hand cantrip. When you cast mage instead of summoning one hand you summon two. Your spectral hands can carry 30lbs each or 60lbs if both used on the same object. You can move your spectral hands up to 30 feet as part of your actions and bonus actions, and whenever you make an unarmed strike you can choose to strike using one of your spectral hands instead against an enemy you can see.
You can use 1 ki point to also allow your hands to take one of these actions as free actions: Use Object or Grapple. One of these per turn. Both spectral hands vanish if one ever moves more than 30ft away from you. The spectral hands are considered magic for the purpose of dispel and anti-magic zones., and for overcoming resistances and immunities. Spectral Hands cannot use items to attack, and they can’t be used to activate magical items either. They cannot activate effects that require a “monk weapon” e.g stunning strike.
Undying Grasp
At 6th level, your connection with your lost loved one grows even stronger. When you use 1 ki point to use Flurry of Blows you can use an additional ki point to forfeit one of the extra attacks to instead allow one of your spectral hands to use Undying Grasp. When you use this, you pick one of your spectral hands, it grows to the size of a medium creature for one minute, and reaches for a target within 5 feet of it. The target must make a STR saving throw (DC= 8+prof+WIS) On a failed save the target is restrained and grappled, and takes 2d6 bludgeoning damage.
On your following turns, whenever you make use of Flurry of Blows you can use one of the extra attacks to crush a grasped target dealing 2d6 bludgeoning damage. It must succeed on a STR saving throw, taking half damage if it succeeds.
To break out, the restrained target can use its action to make a Strength check against your spell save DC. On a success, the target escapes and is no longer restrained by the hand.
When you first use Flurry of Blows you can expend an additional ki point to forfeit both extra attacks, but allow your other hand to use Undying Grasp as well. The die for Undying Grasp goes up with your Martial Arts Die.
Beloved Communion
Beginning at 11th level, you have come far in your journey to fulfill your loved one’s final goal. Because of this bond, your beloved can be called from the afterlife to assist you. If you take 10 minutes to meditate, you can call forth the spirit of your loved one to talk with it. Even if your beloved couldn’t speak the same language as you, e.g. your beloved is an animal, you can communicate unhindered, and clearly, with them through this spell.
For 10 minutes you can talk to them about anything, ask as many questions as you want, and they will answer to whatever degree they wish. They only are aware of events that happened in their lifetime. After you finish talking to them, you will have advantage on all skill checks for one skill that they were proficient in, for the next 24 hours, relating most to what you talked/asked about for their help.
You regain use of Beloved Communion after a long rest. Choose 5 skills that your beloved was proficient in, relative to their character.
Strengthened Bond
Through this journey with your beloved, your connection with them has become more intimate, as parts of them now become parts of you. Your spectral hands also become stronger increasing their weight lifting capacity to 60lbs each. And 120lbs if both used on the same target. You also gain proficiency in one language, and one set of artisan’s tools that your beloved knew.
Unity of Life and Death
Upon reaching level 17, you and your beloved have truly become one. Whenever you act, they act. Whenever you make an unarmed strike, you can use 1 ki point to make an additional attack with one of your spectral hands.
