Blood Hunter
Base Class: Blood Hunter

The first members belonging to the Order of the Raven did not have their start as blood hunters, but as followers of the Raven Queen. These worshipers went on a pilgrimage to kneel in the presence of their deity, but found themselves alone in the colorless torn landscape of the Shadowfell. The followers wandered without a clear path, racked with fear and despair. Most of the followers fell to madness and lost their sense of self. Months later, members of other Blood Hunter orders found a handful of the pilgrims in the nearby woods, nearly catatonic. With all other attempts at restoration failing, the order decided to give them the Hunter's bane in hopes of reversing some of the damage. Few survived the ordeal, but for those that did, it seemed to give them back some semblance of their sanity, though their time in the Shadowfell would leave lasting effects. As the new order expanded, a few members returned to the Shadowfell, this time able to resist its effects on the mind. They focused on expanding their influence into the Shadowfell itself and inducted numerous Shadar-kai into their ranks. As followers of the Raven Queen, the order's focus is on protecting innocent life from all manner of evil and ridding the world of undead.

Rite of the Raven

When you join this order at 3rd level, you learn the Rite of the Raven esoteric rite (detailed below).

Rite of the Raven. Your rite damage is radiant damage. While the rite is active, you gain the following benefits:

  • Your weapon is considered silvered for the duration.
  • Your weapon deals one additional hemocraft die of rite damage when you hit an undead creature.
  • As an action, you can end your Rite of the Raven prematurely, causing it to explode outward in a wave of radiant energy. All creatures within 10 feet of you, including yourself, take radiant damage equal to three rolls of your hemocraft die.

Raven's Blessing

At 3rd level, your connection to the Raven Queen grants you a powerful boon, mitigating your sacrifice and empowering your capabilities. You gain the following benefits:

  • When you roll a 1 or 2 on your rite damage die, you can reroll the die once, but must use the new value.
  • You have resistance to self-inflicted damage from invoking your blood maledict and crimson rite.
  • You have advantage on death saving throws.

Umbral Dodge

Starting 7th level, the Raven Queen bestows upon you a means of lessening incoming damage. When an attacker you can see damages you with an attack, you can use your reaction to temporarily transform into a shadowy silhouette of smoke and dust. The triggering attack's damage is halved, but the physical exertion involved causes hemorrhaging. As a result, you take 1d4 damage. This damage cannot be reduced in any way and increases to 1d6 at 13th level and 1d8 at 19th level.

Brand of Restoration

Starting at 11th level, your connection to the Shadowfell allows you to empower your Brand of Castigation to sap the life force from another creature. Once per turn, when you damage a creature affected by your Brand of Castigation with your Crimson Rite, you regain a number of hit points equal to your Constitution modifer (minimum of 1).

Blood Curse of the Radiant Flame

At 15th level, you’ve honed your hemocraft to mark your enemies with holy light. You gain the Blood Curse of the Radiant Flame for your Blood Maledict feature. This doesn’t count against your number of blood curses known.

Blood Curse of the Radiant Flame

As a bonus action, you can choose one creature you can see within 30 feet of you. The target's eyes begin to glow from within as radiant energy begins to well up inside them. Until the end of your turn, the target is blinded.

Amplify. The curse's duration increases to 1 minute. The target can attempt a Constitution saving throw at the end of each of their turns to remove the curse, removing the curse on a success, and taking radiant damage equal to 4 rolls of your hemocraft die.

Activating a Blood Curse requires a use of your Blood Maledict feature.

Raven's Resilience

Upon reaching 18th level, you learn to channel your connection to the Raven Queen to protect your fading life. As an action, you can expend a number of your remaining hit dice less than or equal to your intelligence modifier (minimum of 1) and restore hit points equal to the roll of those dice. You do not add your Constitution modifier when expending your hit dice in this way.

You can use this feature once per long rest.
