Base Class: Druid
Some druids focus on the balance of the elements, others on the celestial bodies, but you have a different focus. Druids of the Circle of Branches and Thorns focus their abilities on the plants around them. As they gain in level, they become more plant-like.
Branch Wielder
Starting At 2nd level, you become one with any staff in your hands. When wielding a staff, add your proficiency bonus to your armor class. If you have the shillelagh cast on the staff you are wielding,, you add your proficiency bonus to your saving throws as well. This staff becomes your spellcasting focus.
Thorn Shot
Starting At 3rd level, as an action you can shoot a thorn at an opponent within 120 foot range. This thorn requires a spell attack and deals 1d6 piercing damage. The damage increases to 2d6 at 5th level, 3d6 At 11th level, and 4d6 at 17th level. This attack is considered a magic weapon for bypassing damage reduction.
Wood Body
Starting at 6th level, you can use your wild shape to turn your body into wood. Your current and maximum hit point values increase by an amount equal to your proficiency bonus multiplied by ten. Any remaining hit points remaining above your normal maximum go away when the wild shape ends. This form remains active for 1 hour per Druid level (in lieu of the normal wild shape duration).
In addition, when you initially shift you can gain a bonus to your armor class if you sacrifice a spell slot. The bonus to your armor class is equal to the level of the spell slot being sacrificed and the bonus remains until this form ends.
There is no dexterity restriction when in this form, but you cannot be wearing armor when using this ability. This form does not hinder spellcasting in any way.
Nature’s Sustenance
Starting at 10th level, you no longer need to eat, drink or sleep to survive. To gain the benefits of a long rest you must relax for 8 hours (standing guard, reading or something similar).
Regrowth
Starting At 14th level you are constantly under the effects of a Regenerate spell.

Posted Sep 25, 2022That makes sense. Thank you for the response, Kohleria.
Some thoughts/ideas: Wooden animal form? (either via shape change or a companion) Maybe at higher levels add some features to the wood form. You might have it available at 3rd level and then at higher level you can use thorn shot while in the wood form. At one level maybe the spell thorn whip can be used at will or something. Just brainstorming with you. I do like the concept. Maybe at higher level it can be like petrified wood (stoneskin) and offer more protection.

Posted Sep 25, 2022Thank you. I hope you enjoy it. I have more ideas naturally, but many of them tend toward over-powered. I apologize for the abilities not having actual character integration.
As for the comment about Subclass spells, with Druid most of the Subclasses don’t have them. Those that do are very specifically spell heavy. Branches and Thorns is intended to be almost a melee Druid and therefore spells wouldn’t be appropriate.

Posted Sep 24, 2022This looks very cool. Seems like you are missing circle spells?
