Monk
Base Class: Monk

Monks of the Sword Fist have longing to, instead of carrying a sword, let their bodies become the sword. They fight with finesse and precision allowing their attacks to act like a blade. Their precise fighting style gives them unique power over the weapons of others.

Sword Fist Technique

Starting when you choose this tradition at 3rd level, your hands move in a likeness to that of a blade. When using the martial arts ability, you can spend 1 ki point to deal an additional damage die of slashing damage along with the normal damage. This additional damage ignores all damage resistances. You can only use this ability once per turn.

Sword Catcher

Starting at 6th level, you can use your reaction to catch a weapon or fist when you are hit by a melee weapon attack. When you do so, the damage you take from the attack is reduced by 1d10 + your Dexterity modifier + your monk level. If you reduce the damage to 0 you can make one unarmed strike against the attacker.

Improved Blade Seize

Beginning at 11th level, when you catch a sword you gain extra ways to manipulate the user’s attack. When using the Sword Catcher ability, if you reduce the damage to 0 and spend 2 ki points you gain new actions to do other than making an unarmed strike, the actions are:

  • You force the attacker to make a Strength saving throw, on a failed save their weapon is damaged and deals 1d8 less damage for one minute.
  • You force the attacker to make a Dexterity saving throw, on a failed save the attacker is disarmed.
  • You force the attacker to make a Constitution saving throw, on a failed dave you cause their weapon to spark, making them blinded.

Razor Palm

At 17th level, you gain the ability to sharpen your hand with the power of your ki. All unarmed strikes ignore resistance and deal an additional 5 slashing damage. Also when successfully hitting a creature with an unarmed strike you can spend 3 ki points to temporarily lower their AC by 1d4 for 1 minute. This effect can be applied multiple times to a target while it is still in effect but no more than once on the same turn.
