Monk
Base Class: Monk

The monastery of Irdromos lies high in the white peaks of Nilea, an unforgiving and magically charged environment. The monks that reside their have long prided themselves on the level of tenacity and skill required to reach the peak they live on. Anyone who is able to achieve such a feat is granted admission to their ranks. The wizards of Nilea are not one to shy away from a challenge, and many made it their mission to ascend the mountain to study with the monks that reside there and tap into the magical environment. After years of studying alongside each other, their disciplines blended and the Order of Irdromos developed martial techniques designed to counter the arcane arts. Monks of this tradition combine the somatic components of spellcasting when fighting mages and are well versed in knowledge of the arcane. They spend most of their lives living and training alongside the best wizards in Nilea. Many have taken aspects of spellcasting into their combat training and wield magical items or have learned to cast spells themselves. Many of the wizards have also taken up martial practices after seeing the effectiveness of the monks’ techniques.

Deflect Magic

Starting at 3rd level, you can use your reaction and expend a Ki Point to deflect a spell or magical effect that targets you, but not only you. When you do so, the damage you take from the attack is reduced by 1d10 + your wisdom modifier + your monk level.

Spell Counterstrike

Starting at 6th level, you are able to recognize and disrupt spellcasters while they are in the process of casting spells. As a reaction, you can expend a Ki Point and make one melee or ranged weapon attack against a spellcaster that you can see within range who is casting a spell. The caster must make a constitution saving throw against your Ki save DC. If they fail, the spell is lost. The caster does not expend a spell slot.

Bonus Proficiency

When you choose this tradition at 3 level, you gain proficiency in the Arcana skill if you don’t already have it.

Arcane Awareness

After spending years studying arcane relics and texts in the magically charged mountains of Nilea, you gain the ability to investigate an item or area and learn the nature of any magical effects present. Starting at 3rd level, spending ten minutes studying an item or area grants the same effect as the identify and detect magic spells.

Arcane Fortitude

Starting at 11th level, you are able to recognize incoming arcane attacks and steel yourself in preparation, granting you advantage on saving throws against spells and magical effects, provided you can see or hear it being cast.

Reflect Magic

Starting at 17th level, as a reaction you can expend Ki Points to reflect a spell targeting you, but not only you. The number of Ki Points spent must be greater than or equal to the spell’s level; otherwise, the spell is not reflected. Before choosing how many Ki Points to use, you may attempt an Arcana Check (DC 10 + spell level) to identify the spell slot used. You cannot make an Arcana Check to identify the spell's level if you are surprised. If the spell is not reflected, you still gain the benefits of arcane deflection; this benefit only applies to you. The reflected spell uses the caster’s stats.
