Base Class: Monk
In the elven town of Sangcrest, monks of the Elite Guard are trained in the Way of the Bullet: a martial arts style that sees its practitioners wield guns like swords, firing with precision seemingly magically achieved. However, these monks have reached this level of skill not through arcane means, but by careful observation and a well-honed mind. For these monks, the seemingly arbitrary world around them is not amass with chaos and coincidence but rather made of angles and forces that exist between all things, and by identifying these laws of nature, monks of the Way of the Bullet can pull off seemingly supernatural feats.
Gun Kata
Monks specialising in the Way of the Bullet wield firearms with such skill and precision it is as if they are an extension of themselves. Starting at 3 level, you gain proficiency in all firearms with the ‘light’ property and can ignore the ‘loading’ and ‘reload’ properties of firearms as you swiftly reload with a free action, provided you have the ammunition to do so. These light firearms count as monk weapons and can be used with Martial Arts features. However, when using firearms with martial arts features at range you cannot add your damage bonus to damage rolls.
For instance at third level, you can make one attack action with a firearm and use either the firearm’s damage die or your martial arts die and add your damage modifier to the damage, then spend 1 ki point to use Flurry of Blows with your firearms. These two firearm attacks deal damage equal to your martial arts die only, with no additional damage modifier.
If you wield two firearms instead of one you may use your bonus action to fire with your offhand firearm dealing damage equal to your martial arts die only, with no additional damage modifier.
You can also make melee weapon attacks with the gun itself to enemies in a range of 5 feet. These too count as monk weapons and deal damage equal to the monk die as per normal monk weapons.
Equilibrium Sense
At 6 level your mind has learned to identify the angles, forces and balance that exist in the world around you. As a bonus action you can spend a ki point to identify the best angles to fire as sometimes the straightest shot is not always the most accurate. Until the start of your next turn your firearm’s normal and long ranges are doubled.
Additionally you can spend one minute analysing any physical obstacle in front of you, at the DMs discretion, such as a river too fast to swim across or a wall that is difficult to climb for instance. During this time you identify an effective method of overcoming the obstacle. If you share this information with your party they and you can add half your monk level to the skill check required to overcome the obstacle.
Curve the Bullet
At 11 level your proficiency with firearms has improved to the point where you are able to control the bullets you fire as expertly as the firearms you wield. When making a ranged weapon attack with a firearm with the light property, you can spend 2 ki points to curve the bullet in such a way that it can hit a second target after the first as long as the second target is still within the firearm’s normal range. This second target must make a dexterity saving throw equal to your Ki Save DC or take damage equal to your martial arts die.
In addition, the connection between your ki and your ammunition has turned your bullets into magical ammunition for the purpose of overcoming resistances.
Bulletstorm
At 17 level your passive equilibrium senses and quick reflexes enable you to fire at lightning fast speeds by making the shortest body movements possible. When using the ‘Flurry of Blows’ feature, you can spend an additional 2 ki points after the second ‘Flurry of Blows’ shot to fire again. If this additional shot hits you can spend an additional 2 ki points to fire once again. This can continue until you miss, run out of ammunition or choose to stop spending ki points.
