Base Class: Blood Hunter (archived)
Long ago, this order was known as the Order of the Holy Blood. It was an order of knights devoted to the extermination of evil. One day, a powerful demon cursed the men and women of this order with a disease. The order would become a band of savage warrior with a desire to slaughter each and everyone in sight.
One of their order, through sheer power of will, was able to resist the effects long enough to come up with a solution. New and old members of the order would receive an antidote that would grant them a little control over their murderous urges. With time, the order lost their prestige and went into hiding. But they remain devoted to their original ideal of fighting evil where it takes root, unleashing their rage on their enemies.
Black Rage
When you join this order at level 3, you develop the curse that plagues the order. While the Hunter’s Bane normally helps repress the effects, you are able to release it when you need the extra strenght. As a bonus action, you enter a Black Rage. As long as you don’t wear heavy armor, you gain the following benefit for the next minute, until there are no more enemy creatures within 60 feet or you are knocked unconscious:
- You have resistence to bludeoning, piercing and slashing damage
- You have advantage on strength checks and strength saving throws
- You can roll your rite damage twice and take the better result.
You can use this feature once per short rest.
Red Thirst
At level 3, you suffer the adverse effects of releasing your curse for too long. When your Black Rage ends, roll a Wisdom saving throw. The DC equals 8 + the number of successful attacks you’ve landed during your Black Rage. If you succeed, the rage fades away and you regain control of yourself. If you fail, you become consumed by the curse and must keep fighting and killing. The Black Rage lasts for an additional turn, but you must attack the creature nearest to you, friend or foe. If there are 2 or more creatures within the same distance of you, randomly determine which one you’ll attack. At the end of your subsequent turns, you can try to make the wisdom save again, a failure meaning that the Black Rage continues. Each turn, the DC is modified by + 1 for every successful attack and -1 for every turn that passes. Knocking you unconscious or killing you ends the Red Thirst’s effects.
Aspect of Terror
At level 7, when you enter your Black Rage, you emit an aura of dread that frightens those who stand in your way. When you activate your Black rage, every creature that can see you within 30 feet must make a Wisdom saving throw or suffer the frightened condition for the next minute. The DC equals 8 + your Wisdom modifier + your proficiency bonus. A creature that passes the save is immune to this effect for 24 hours.
Acute Senses
At level 11, your sense of hearing has become more developped. So much so in fact that you can faintly hear the heartbeat of nearby creatures. As an action, you can attempt to find hidden creatures by concentrating on their heartbeat. Make a perception check against their stealth checks. Roll with advantage if the creatures are frightened. If you succceed, you know the last known location of these creatures. If you attack them this turn, you do not have disadvantage if they’re invisible.
Tame the Taint
At level 15, you are becoming accustomed to your curse. Many in your order do not have this chance as they die beforehand. You now have advantage on the Wisdom check to resist the effects of the Red Thirst.
Blood Fury
At level 18, your injuries fuel your curse as you try to cling to life as best you can. The closer you are to falling, the more vicious your attacks become. While in your Black Rage, when you are below half your maximum hit points, you score critical hits on your attacks on the roll of a natural 19 and 20. When you get to below a quarter of your maximum hit points, you score critical hits on your attacks on the roll of a natural 18, 19 or 20.
