Base Class: Blood Hunter
While the other orders are proficient in channeling their life force to augment their abilities, those who belong to the Order of the Sanguine Serpent have unlocked the ability to directly weaponize it. Deeply connected to their own life force in a way that is similar to monks, those of the Order can draw out streams of their own blood to use as terrifying weapons.
Sanguine Lash
When you join this order at 3rd Level, you gain the ability to manipulate your own lifeblood as a deadly weapon.
When you use your bonus action to activate a Crimson Rite, you can choose to extract the blood drawn by its activation, manifesting it as a floating stream of blood. While active, you gain a new attack option that you can use with the Attack action. Once activated, you have access to a special attack for 10 minutes or until you lose concentration, as if you were concentrating on a spell. This special attack is a ranged spell attack with a range of 30 feet. You are proficient with it, and you add your Intelligence modifier to your attack rolls made with it. It’s damage is force and is equal to your hemocraft die.
You can choose to apply your Crimson Rite to your Sanguine Lash instead of a weapon.
When you make the Attack action on Your Turn, you can make an additional attack with your Sanguine Lash as a bonus action.
When you gain the Extra Attack feature, this special attack can be used for any of the attacks you make as part of the Attack action.
Ki
Starting when you pick this order at 3rd Level, you gain access to the mystic energy of ki. Your access to this energy is represented by a number of ki points. The amount of ki points that you have is equal to half of your blood hunter levels, rounded up.
You can spend these points to fuel various ki features. You start knowing two such features: Ichorous Flurry, and Crimson Siphon. You learn more ki features as you level up in this subclass.
When you spend a ki point, it is unavailable until you finish a short or long rest.
As a bonus action, you can recover ki at the expense of your own vitality. For every point of ki that you wish to recover, take damage equal to that many rolls of your hemocraft die. This damage does not provoke a concentration check to maintain your Sanguine Lash
Some of your ki features require your target to make a saving throw to resist the feature’s Effects. The saving throw DC is calculated as follows
Ki save DC = 8 + your Proficiency Bonus + your Intelligence modifier
- Ichorous Flurry
Immediately after you take the Attack action on Your Turn, you can spend 1 ki point to make two Sanguine Lash attacks as a bonus action.
- Crimson Siphon
When you make an attack with your Sanguine Lash, you can spend 1 ki point to heal an amount equal to the damage dealt by your Lash. This feature cannot be used if the target is a Construct or Undead.
Varicose Tendrils
Starting at 7th Level, you become more adept at controlling your Sanguine Lash. You now can use your Sanguine Lash to manipulate your environment. You can use it to lift, push, or pull items with a weight up to twice your Intelligence score. You can also use it to make the Help action, or can choose to Trip or Grapple instead of making an attack as part of Attack Action, as long as the Target is Large or smaller size, using your Intelligence score. You can only have one creature grappled by your Sanguine Lash at a time.
Additionally, whenever you hit a Large or smaller creature with one of attacks granted by your Ichorous Flurry, you can impose one of the following Effects on that Target:
- It must make a Strength saving throw or be pulled 10ft in a single direction.
- It can’t make Reactions until the end of your next turn.
Advanced Hemomancy
Starting at 11th level, your familiarity with weaponizing your own life force brings some potent effects. You can now maintain concentration on your Sanguine Lash for up to an hour, and it's range is now 60ft. When you use your Crimson Siphon ability, roll an additional hemomancy die and add that to the amount healed. Additionally, if you fail a concentration check to maintain your Sanguine Lash, you can spend a ki point to automatically succeed instead.
Brand of Evisceration
At 15th level, your Brand of Castigation gives you access to your target’s life force. As an action, you can spend 3 ki points to drain them of that force. The target must make a Constitution saving throw. If it fails, it takes necrotic damage equal to six rolls of your hemocraft die, and you regain hit points equal to half of the damage dealt. If it succeeds, the target takes half damage, and you do not regain any hit points. The damage increases by two hemocraft die for every ki point spent.
Master of the Sanguine Lash
At 18th Level, you have become an expert with your Sanguine Lash. Whenever you use your Ichorous Flurry feature, you can now attack four times instead of two, and its additional Effects can affect creatures of any size.
Additionally, when you roll for Initiative and have no ki points remaining, you automatically regain 4 ki points.
