Base Class: Druid
Circle of Tree druids have a deeper connection with trees and other plants around them even being able to use their wild shape to become a living tree.
Circle Spells
Your symbiotic link to plants and plant creatures grants you access to certain spells. At 2nd level, you learn the Thorn Whip cantrip if you don't know it already. At 3rd, 5th, 7th, and 9th level you gain access to the spells listed for that level in the Circle of Trees Spells table.
Once you gain access to one of these spells, you always have it prepared, and it doesn’t count against the number of spells you can prepare each day. If you gain access to a spell that doesn’t appear on the druid spell list, the spell is nonetheless a druid spell for you.
Circle of Tree Spells
3rd locate animals or plants, spike growth
5th daylight, plant growth
7th blight, Grasping vine
9th cloudkill, commune with nature.
Briartwine
Starting at 2nd level, your body protects you from being touched by sprouting thorns along your skin against hostile creatures. When a creature you can see hits you with a melee attack within 5 feet, shoves you, grapples you, or is grappled by you, you can use your reaction to deal 1d4 magical piercing damage to that creature. At the end of your turn if you are grappled or are grappling a creature you may use your reaction against that creature (this does not give you an extra reaction). The piercing damage increases to 1d6 at 6th level, 1d8 at 10th level, and 1d10 at 14th level.
Tree Form
At 2nd level, you gain the ability to channel magic into your skin. As an action, you can expend a use of your Wild Shape feature to turn your skin into hard tree bark, rather than transforming into a beast form. While this feature is active, you gain the following benefits:
- Your AC can't become less than 16, regardless of the armor you are wearing.
- When you deal your Briartwine damage, roll the damage die a second time and add it to the total.
- When ever you use your Briartwine, you gain Bludgeoning, Piercing, and Slashing Damage resistance against that attack.
These benefits last for 1 hour, or until you use your Wild Shape again.
Plant Speaker
At 6th level, As an action, You imbue plants within 30 feet of you with limited sentience and animation, giving them the ability to communicate with you and follow your simple commands. You can question plants about events in the area within the past day, gaining information about creatures that have passed, weather, and other circumstances.
You can also turn difficult terrain caused by plant growth (such as thickets and undergrowth) into ordinary terrain or you can turn ordinary terrain where plants are present into difficult terrain that lasts for 10 minutes, causing vines and branches to hinder pursuers, for example.
Plants might be able to perform other tasks on your behalf, at the GM’s discretion. This ability doesn’t enable plants to uproot themselves and move about, but they can freely move branches, tendrils, and stalks.
If a plant creature is in the area, you can communicate with it as if you shared a common language, If you are in your Tree Form or Treant Body you gain Advantage to influence it.
This ability can cause the plants created by the entangle spell to release a restrained creature.
You may use this ability a number of times equal to your Wisdom modifier, a minimum of 1. You regain all uses after completing a Long rest
Tree Portal
At 10th level, as a bonus action, you gain the ability to enter a tree and move from inside it to inside another tree of the same kind within 500 feet. Both trees must be living and at least the same size as you. You must use 5 feet of movement to enter a tree. You instantly know the location of all other trees of the same kind within 500 feet and, as part of the move used to enter the tree, can either pass into one of those trees or step out of the tree you’re in. You appear in a spot of your choice within 5 feet of the destination tree, using another 5 feet of movement. If you have no movement left, you appear within 5 feet of the tree you entered. You must end each turn outside a tree.
Treant Body
At 14th level, you can expend two uses of Wild Shape at the same time to transform into a Treant. In addition, while you are a Treant, you are under the affects of Tree Form and when you deal your Briartwine damage roll the damage die three times.
