Base Class: Artificer
Moving from point A to point B can be a difficult, perilous event. Not so for the Gate Keeper. Making extensive use of conjuration magic and their knowledge of machines, the Gate Keepers have created ways to move between places with little to no difficulty. Their signature creation is the Gate Rail, a small firearm-like device that can create small "Gates" or portals between distant locations. Creative use of the Gate Rail is the hall mark of the Gate Keeper, whether it's curbing a a fall or setting an ambush, the Gate Keeper is at their best when they can see the world around them and link the dots, so to speak. Their Gate Rail is precious to them and its inner workings are a closely guarded secret. Still, allies can count on them to help make use of even the most limited spaces.
Tool Proficiency
3rd-level Gate Keeper feature
You gain proficiency with smith's tools. If you already have this proficiency, you gain proficiency with one other type of artisan’s tools of your choice.
Gate Keeper Spells
3rd-level Gate Keeper feature
You always have certain spells prepared after you reach particular levels in this class, as shown in the Gate Keeper Spells table. These spells count as artificer spells for you, but they don’t count against the number of artificer spells you prepare.

Gate Rail
3rd-level Gate Keeper feature
You've learned how to create your own Gate Rail, a magical gun that can be used to open gates and allow you to pass between places. As a bonus action, you can fire your Gate Rail at any space within 360 ft of you to create a gate. Nothing happens if only one gate is active. However, when the second gate is opened, creatures can see through the gates to other side and use them to teleport between locations. Any unwilling creature on the gate's square when the second gate opens or who ends their turn on the gate's location must succeed a DEX saving throw or be teleported to the other gate and pushed 5ft out the other gate.
Gates can be oriented however you choose, be that on the ground or in the air at the target location. They cylindrically shaped and can be peered through and traversed through. You can close a Gate a s bonus action. If you are ever 360 ft away from a Gate, it closes. A gate will also close when you attempt to make a third gate, starting with the oldest gate you made.
You may also use your Gate Rail offensively. It acts like a pistol and deals 1d10+1 force damage when you are using it to attack and not open a Gate. This number increases to 2d10+2 at 9th level.
You may attack through gates. Ranged attacks come straight through the gate and can continue in a straight line. Melee attacks can hit within 5ft of a gate, provided you are within 5ft of the other side of the gate.
You may use the Gate Rail as a spell focus.
Extra Attack
5th-level Gate Keeper feature
You can attack twice per turn during combat. You may use this additional attack to open or close a gate.
Gate Escape
9th-level Gate Keeper feature
Your Gate Rail now deals 2d10+2 damage. In addition, you can use your reaction to open a Gate within 5ft of you location. You may use this gate in the following ways:
- If you are being attacked by a melee, the attack misses and the attacker is moved through the gate and pushed 5ft away from the other end. If there is no other gate open, you may not use this ability.
- You can fall through the gate and land on the other side. If you are being attacked by a melee attack, the attack misses. If it is a ranged attack, it follows you through the gate. If there is no other gate open, you may not use this ability.
- If you are being attacked by a ranged attack, it goes through the gate and continue in a straight line on the other side. If there is no other gate open, the attack disappears into the gate and the gate closes.
- You can reach through the gate and pull an willing creature though it, provided they are within 5ft of the other gate. If there is no other gate open, you may not use this ability.
You may use this ability up to 1+ you INT modifier times per long rest.
Great Gate
15th-level Gate Keeper feature
You've mastered your gate rail and can now travel outside of the 360 ft limit without the gate closing. Additionally you can now open a third, special Gate. This third Gate can be opened as part of your Open/Close Gate action but is not linked to your other two gates. However, it is a one-way gate to the astral plane. Any creature within 5ft of the gate when it is opened is pulled through to the astral realm. Using this Gate temporarily overloads your Gate Rail, rendering it unusable for the next hour or until you spend a round repairing the Gate Rail, whichever happens first. You may use this feature once per long rest.
