Wizard
Base Class: Wizard

Wizards for whom a single life is not enough will seek out the secret knowledge and rituals of lichdom.

Though it is said a wizard must sacrifice their soul to do so, those who succeed know this is not true. One must merely sacrifice one's body to become an immortal undead creature.

The path to lichdom is long and hard, it requires mastery of advanced magics. But those who succeed on this path eventually learn the ritual to create their own phylactery and achieve immortality.

Powerful secrets

Beginning when you select this school at 2nd level, you obsess over learning the most powerful magic you can. The gold and time you must spend to copy a spell of the maximum level you can currently cast is halved.

Magical Regeneration

At 2nd level, you gain the ability to funnel some of your magical energy into sustaining yourself. Once per turn when you cast a spell of 1st level or higher you can regain hitpoints equal to your proficiency bonus.

Master of Undeath

At 6th level, you add the animate dead spell to your spellbook if it is not there already. When you kill a humanoid with a spell you can use your reaction to immediately raise them as either a zombie or a skeleton as appropriate as if you had cast animate dead. They remain under your control for 1 hour unless you expend spell slots to cast animate dead to reexert your control over them.

Phylactery

Beginning at 10th level, you have mastered the secret rituals of lichdom and have created your own phylactery. Your phylactery is a Tiny object with AC 20 and hit points equal to 5 times your wizard level. As long as your phylactery is intact you gain the following properties:

  • Your creature type is Undead.
  • You do not need to eat, breath, or sleep.
  • You are immune to poison damage and the poisoned condition.
  • You have advantage on saving throws to resist spells and magical effects, and effects that turn undead.
  • If you kill a creature using a spell that deals necrotic damage you regain hitpoints equal to the necrotic damage dealt.
  • If you die you reappear within 5ft of your phylactery in 1d10 days.  If a spell is cast on you that would normally return you to life, you instantly reappear within 5ft of your phylactery.

If your phylactery is destroyed, you can spend 8 hours of work to replace it, until it is replaced you take 10d10 radiant damage each dawn. If you die while your phylactery is destroyed you cannot be restored or resurrected except through use of a wish.

Eternal Knowledge

Starting at 14th level, your mind is a vault of arcane information. Choose one spell of each level that you can prepare, those spells are always prepared and don't count against your number of prepared spells.
