Artificer
Base Class: Artificer

Artifice, in many worlds of fantasy, is the study of magic combined with material, a convergent study of both together as one. The Channeler is an Artificer who takes this idea further, utilizing the material to enhance their magic much like a lense or prism to light, utilizing their machinations as an expression of their power as much as a tool like other Artificers.

Tool Proficiency

3rd-level Channeler feature

Beginning at 3rd Level, you gain proficiency with calligrapher’s tools.

Sigil Conduit

3rd-level Channeler feature

Beginning at 3rd Level, your focus on the arcane of artifice has bore a fruit of potential. You now have produced a device called a Sigil Conduit, a key to the arcane that acts as a mediator between yourself and the forces of Magic at your fingertips, and which can be used to enhance said arcana, much like a spyglass focusing the rays of the sun through a carefully crafted lense.

Your Sigil Conduit can be used as your Spellcasting focus, and has a number of charges equal to 1 + your Intelligence Modifier (minimum of 1), and recharges on a long rest. When you cast a spell using your Sigil Conduit as a spellcasting focus, you can select one of the following Sigils to produce an additional effect to the spell cast:

Sigil Effect
Potent If the spell cast imposes a saving throw on a creature, that creature has disadvantage on the save.
Twice If the spell cast targets one creature, you may target two individual creatures instead.
Reach The range of the spell cast is doubled for the duration. If the spell has a range of touch, the spell is treated with a range of 15 feet.
Assert If the spell cast involves making an attack roll, you may double your proficiency bonus added to the spell attack.
Grace If the spell cast affects an area, you may choose as many creatures as your intelligence modifier to not be targeted by the spell.

If you ever lose your Sigil Conduit, you can recover it over the course of 1d6 long rests, you needn’t gather material components in order to recover it. Additionally, the Sigil Conduit may not be used as a Spellcasting focus by any creature other than yourself.

Varied Study

3rd-level Channeler feature

As a Channeler, your focus of study is the arcane itself, and the fundamentals you yourself have reached out to attain. You learn Two Spells of first level from any Spellcasting class of your choice. Additionally, you learn two spells of second, third, fourth, and fifth levels at levels 5, 9, 13, and 17 respectively.

Arcana Adept

5th-level Artillerist feature

Beginning at 5th level, you have formed a tight bond with your Sigil Conduit. Doing so, you have learned to use it for more than it’s intended purpose. While you have the Sigil Conduit on your person, you gain the following benefits:

  • As a bonus action, you can expend a spell slot of any level of your choice, replenishing as many spent charges as the level of the slot expended.
  • When you cast a spell that deals one of the deals Acid, Fire, Cold, Lightning, Poison, or Thunder Damage, you can replace the damage type to another of the aforementioned damage types.
  • When you cast a spell using a spell slot, you can increase the level of the spell to one level higher than the slot expended. You may do this once per long rest, or expend a charge from your Sigil Conduit.

Siphon Energy

9th-level Channeler feature

Beginning at 9th Level, you learn the spells Dispel Magic and Counterspell if you didn’t have those spells already. Additionally, when you successfully end or halt the effect of a spell using Dispel Magic or Counterspell, you can siphon that magical energy for yourself, fully replenishing all expended charges of your Sigil Conduit.

Empowered Spell-Storing Item

15th-level Artillerist feature

Beginning at 15th Level, your practice in channeling magic through artifice and craft has expanded past that of your own machinations. When you imbue an item with a spell using your Spell Storing Item feature, you may use spells of 3rd to 5th level as you can with 1st and 2nd.

Additionally, you can replenish the use of said items. As an action, you can touch an item under the effects of you Spell-Storing Item feature that still has at least 1 use left, and expend 2 charges of your Sigil Conduit. Doing so replenishes all spent uses of the spell though the object.
