Base Class: Monk
Those who follow the path of the Ronin are those seeking redemption. It doesn't matter the crime, though it's usually serious Ronin are lonely figures, who desire to atone for some great wrong. Rarely those who follow the path of the Ronin do so to truly test their skills as a swordsman. The way of the Ronin teaches martial skill in the shape of sword katas, Ronin rigorously train their bodies an minds to be one with the sword. Their elegance is unparalleled, the true masters of the form can strike enemies down with a single blow. Some consider them little more than bandits and some do indeed fall into darker paths, but most still follow the teachings of budo, that teaches that the first enemy you defeat must be yourself.
Most Ronin have failed their lords or masters in someway, be it in failing to protect them from an assassination attempt or some other dereliction of duty, some of the more unfortunate warriors who walk this path may have simply, accidentally slighted their lords and as punishment were banished. Those who walk this path seek, at least in the beginning a way home. But it is common for Ronin to solace in the way of budo, as they seek out greater and greater challenge they embrace the path they walk.
The Winding Path
As you walk the way of the Ronin you move with startling speed cutting down foes like a river cuts through rock. Whether its a representation of you shame, loneliness or anger you are gifted with a pair of swords but these swords are not like others, deep inside them dwells an Oni. This being can be a silent partner or a vocal one, it is up to you and your DM to decide. This is your first step on the path of the demon. Those who follow the path of the demon are bold warriors, always pressing their advantage, creating a blur of swords around them. You wield dual swords, a katana and a wakizashi, known as the Demon Blades deals your martial arts die+ your dexterity modifier, when you strike with one as part of the attack action you can make an additional strike as a bonus action, you gain an additional +2 to their damage rolls on your main hand weapon. A Ronin's abilities are fuelled by wrath (ki).
Blades of the Oni.
Your blades are known as the Demon's Cry and the Demon's Wail, they are effected by the martial arts table of the monk. From level 3 you gain the unique ability to bargain with the Oni over a long rest, when you do so you can take a magic weapon and absorb it's properties into the Demon Blades. Your blade then counts as this magical weapon until you perform a ritual to remove the properties or change the properties to a different magical weapon.
Demon's Thirst- When you use a spirit point to perform a double strike with Demon's Wail your blades thirst for your opponent's blood. The damage done by the flurry of sword strikes heals you for the damage done + your constitution modifier.
Demon's Spite- You can spend 1 spirit point to unleash the power of an Oni on your opponent. As a bonus action you can curse the target for one minute, while it is cursed you can add your Dexterity modifier to your damage rolls. Any attack roll you make against the cursed target is a critical hit on a roll of 19 or 20 on the d20. If the cursed target dies, you regain hit points equal to your Ronin level + your Dexterity modifier (minimum of 1 hit point).
Silver Tongue
As you increase in levels your bond with your inner demon strengthens, you begin to possess a fierce charm and dominating will. You gain expertise in Persuasion and Intimidation skills.
Insidious Spite
You are a consummate swordsman so adept with your blades that you gain an additional attack when you take the attack action.
Your Demon's spite now exposes a fragment of your foe’s essence, leaving them vulnerable to your blows. When you mark your target with your Demon's Spite Beginning at 11th level you can spend 1 additional wrath. Whenever you damage a cursed creature with, your weapon deals one additional die of damage.
Wrath of the Oni
At 17th level your Demon's blades move with power and speed beyond your own strength. The demons within are an extension of your body. When you use your bonus action to perform a Demon's Roar you can make a third strike.
You and your blades act as one, your appearance changes to that of an Oni, a mythical warrior demon. You can choose to pay 6 wrath points to take on this form.
For 1 minute
- Once on each of your turns when you make a weapon attack and miss, you can cause that attack to hit instead.
- A shadowy flickering aura surrounds you, each enemy within that aura must make a wisdom (Insight) check against your charisma (Intimidation) roll, if a creature fails that check it is considered frightened. If that check is failed by more than 5, each creature is considered stunned.
- With your shadowy aura any creature that relies on sight to attack, attacks at disadvantage.
