Monk
Base Class: Monk

The Way of the White Whale is rarely a path chosen outright. When monks finds themselves driven by an obsessive goal, they must make a choice: fight the obsession with acetic training or be swept up by its torrent. The monks who choose the latter path give name to their dogmatic focus and follow it at all times. They learn techniques to persevere in the face of uncertainty, challenge, and outright failure. Their advanced meditation grants them clarity and drive that inspires those around them to action. Their obsession, however, can be taxing to their minds and bodies.

Dogmatic Focus

Starting at 3rd level, when you name your dogmatic focus, your obsession gives you the ability to push through waning energy reserves. As an action, you may choose to restore any number of ki points up to your normal limit. Roll that number of d4. For each 3 or 4 you get, restore 1 ki point and drop those dice. Then take the remaining amount as psychic damage.

For example, a level 5 monk can choose to restore all 5 ki points. With Dogmatic Focus, she rolls 5d4 and gets a 1, 2, 4, 4, and 3. As a result, she restores 3 ki points (4, 4, 3) and takes 3 points of psychic damage (1+2).

Inspiring Clarity

Starting when you choose this tradition at 3rd level, your clarity of mind inspires others to join you on your quest. If you don't already have it, you gain proficiency in the Persuasion skill, and take advantage in Persuasion checks relating to your dogmatic focus.

Perseverance

At 6th level, you gain the ability to prevent incoming damage. As a reaction, you can expend 1 ki point to prevent damage equal to 1d4 + your monk level. You cannot expend more ki points to prevent more damage within this reaction.

Portentous Prophesy

Starting at 11th level, your meditation begins to grant you prescient visions. At the beginning of any multi-day endeavor, you experience a prophesy of your immediate future. This vision is not necessarily an edict of fate, but may contain useful information or strong warnings. You roll 1d20 + your wisdom modifier, the outcome of which dictates the what is revealed.

Roll Effect

20+

The vision is clear and benevolent. Useful details about your quest are revealed, and you take advantage when acting on this information.

16-19

The vision is vague, but promising. At least one useful detail about your quest is revealed.

11-15

Portents and omens abound. No useful details are immediately revealed, but with some interpretation, you may find it useful.

5-10

The vision is vague and menacing. All signs point to misfortune or a bad outcome, but the signs have been wrong before.

1-4

The vision is clear and deeply malevolent. You see a catastrophe unfold with no clear path to resolution. Something bad is going to happen to you.

Fortune Favors the Prepared Mind

Beginning at 17th level, you can enter a special meditation that prepares you for the potentialities of the day. You visualize a number of possible outcomes and brace yourself for their occurrence. You may expend 2 ki points to use your bonus action to give yourself the Help action.
