Base Class: Warlock
(Based upon the Knights Radiant of Brandon Sanderson's The Stormlight Archive.)
Some otherworldly patrons are fickle, guided not by their own intrinsic goals, or by accidental connection, but by oaths, not unlike those sworn by a paladin. Acting against those oaths can result in the loss of power, while swearing further oaths can provide additional capabilities. The first of these oaths, or "Ideals," is common to all such orders, but the true power of the oaths does not become apparent until they swear the second, which is Order specific, at which point they are able to use the beginnings of their patron-specific abilities.
Honorspren are bound by honor itself, and gain in power not by following laws set down by outside forces, but by doing what is right. They are primarily concentrated upon defending others, as well as having special ability with gravitation.
Their Fifth Ideal is as of yet unknown, but may involve becoming the embodiment of honor itself.
Their Ideals are as follows:
First Ideal: Life before death. Strength before weakness. Journey before destination.
Second Ideal: I will protect those who cannot protect themselves.
Third Ideal: I will protect those I hate.
Fourth Ideal: I will accept there are those I cannot protect.
Expanded Spell List
Connection to the honorspren lets you choose from an expanded list of spells when you learn a warlock spell. The following spells are added to the warlock spell list for you. You also can access the paladin spell list, for which spells will be warlock spells for you.
Honorspren Expanded Spells
| Spell Level | Spells |
|---|---|
| 1st | feather fall, shield |
| 2nd | branding smite, levitate |
| 3rd | beacon of hope, wind wall |
| 4th | control water, guardian of faith |
| 5th | telekinesis, wall of force |
Oath of Protection
Starting at 1st level, after swearing the Second Ideal, you gain the ability to provide ethereal protection over someone. As a bonus action, choose one creature you can see within 30 feet of you. The boon ends early if the target dies, you die, or you are incapacitated. Until the boon ends, you gain the following benefits:
- You have resistance to radiant damage so long as your oath is active.
- You gain a bonus to damage rolls and attack rolls against those engaged with the protected target. The bonus equals your proficiency bonus.
- You have advantage on attack or spell rolls when attacking a target engaged with the oath's focus.
- The target of the oath has advantage on all saving throws for a number of minutes equal to your warlock level (minimum of 1).
- If the target of the boon dies, you lose hit points equal to your warlock level + your Charisma modifier (minimum of 1 hit point). If this amount is enough to reach zero, you are stable but unconscious.
You can’t use this feature again until you finish a short or long rest.
Directional Gravity
At 1st level, on swearing the Second Idea, you can magically alter the force of gravity on one object or creature that you can touch, which must be Large or smaller. The target's weight is halved or doubled for up to 1 minute or until your concentration ends (as if you were concentrating on a spell). If used on an unwilling creature, the creature must make a Constitution saving throw against the caster's spell save DC.
While the weight of a creature is halved by this effect, the creature's speed increases by 10 feet, it can jump twice as far as normal, and it has disadvantage on Strength checks and Strength saving throws.
While the weight of a creature is doubled by this effect, the creature's speed is reduced by 10 feet, and it has advantage on Strength checks and Strength saving throws.
This effect works either as a touch-based spell or based on self, but the user must be touching at least one of the sources. Only one object can be affected by any one of these effects at one time. The warlock can use each of these powers a total equal to their proficiency modifier plus their Wisdom modifier per long rest.
At 5th level, this feature allows the warlock to manipulate their own gravity, allowing a version of the fly spell centered on the self that has the same limitations as the other abilities (as well as of the fly spell itself), though they have advantage on concentration when using it on themselves.
Blade of Honor
At 6th level, on swearing the Third Ideal, summon the spirit as a melee weapon with which you are proficient as a bonus action. The blade is formed of pure light and honor, and deals half of 3d8 radiant damage on a hit in addition to the base damage of the weapon type. The wielder can change the form of the weapon to another melee weapon as a bonus action. At 10th level, the radiant damage increases to half of 4d8. At 14th level, the radiant damage increases to half of 5d8.
When you attack with that weapon, you can use your Charisma modifier, instead of Strength or Dexterity, for the attack and damage rolls. This benefit lasts until you finish a long rest. If you later gain the Pact of the Blade feature, this benefit extends to every pact weapon you conjure with that feature, no matter the weapon’s type.
Armor of Wind
By swearing the Fourth Ideal, the warlock can summon a magical suit of armor around themselves, composed of non-sapient spirits of wind. Gain the ability to cast Mage Armor as a Warlock spell at will without components, using the spellcasting ability as the modifier instead of Dexterity, with a range of Self. Unlike most cases of the spell, this version functions even if used alongside existing armor, though if used with said armor, the bonus AC is only the spellcasting modifier (Charisma plus any relevant bonuses to warlock spells). This armor also can be modified at will, such as sealing its faceplate to keep out water or toxins, though with an amount of air with a number of minutes equal to two times the warlock's Charisma modifier.
Master of the Storm
Starting at 14th level, upon swearing the Fifth Ideal, you are a defender against the essence of the storm itself. Add your Wisdom modifier to any saving throws against ranged effects. You can use a reaction to apply this added number, plus your Charisma modifier, to a saving throw against a ranged effect within the ten-foot radius, especially if from a natural source such as hostile weather.
Once you use the latter form of this ability, you cannot use it until taking a long rest, unless you sacrifice one spell slot to do so again.

Posted Jun 12, 2022Thanks! I’m trying to take the most basic possible approach. I’ll be adding more as we find out the last oath. Anything else to change it?

(you may want to add that the Oaths may differ with different people -- an example is Teft, though I can't recall his at the moment. Congrats on the good job!)
