Base Class: Bard
Coming from the Library Betwixt, a High Chronicler seeks out the history of other worlds solely to chronicle stories. High Chroniclers' powers are derived from this realm of incomplete, yet still vast and nigh limitless knowledge, granting them unique abilities that allow them to perform their duties.
Writ of the Library
Upon obtaining the Chronicler Betwixt subclass at 3rd level, you gain advantage on all History checks and gain proficiency with all writing implements and stationery kits such as Calligrapher's Supplies, Cartographer's Tools, and Painter's Supplies. In addition, at no extra cost, you may make a bonus action called "Radiant Writ," which will cause your finger to glow bright white and allow you to draw or write lines of white light in the air that last for 10 seconds or until dispelled by the user.
Storage of Knowledge
Also at 3rd level, you find it easier to access the Library Betwixt. While you still cannot summon a portal back directly, you can make a small enough wormhole to send back specific objects to the Library. Instead of placing any book, map, recipe, or guides into your inventory, you can instead send them to the Library Betwixt on contact, causing the item to glow brightly then flash away at lightspeed. They will remain in the Library Betwixt until you choose to call back these items at the cost of a bonus action, but only one item per bonus action. Additionally, while these pieces of knowledge are stored in the Library Betwixt, they have no bearing on encumbrance and cannot be looted or stolen from you.
Tragedies and Histories from Many Bygone Worlds
At 6th level, you recognize the patterns of the downfalls and uprisings of many nations that came before in other worlds, the destruction of populations, the damnation of memory, and so on. As a result, you can use your knowledge of the chronicles of those lands to your advantage. You receive the following bonuses:
- You can use INT instead of CHA for any CHA roll.
- If you do not already have proficiency in Arcana, History, Investigation, or Religion, you can receive proficiency in one of those skills. If you already have proficiency in the selected skill, it becomes expertise.
Pagination
Also at 6th level, you understand that harm may just come to the very thing you seek to cherish, the chronicling of knowledge. Thus, you feel inclined to use knowledge to protect knowledge, even if it might come at the cost of knowledge. You can use an action to consume one book in your inventory by enchanting it, generating a flurry of defensive pages to protect yourself, granting 2d6 + 8 temporary hit points. The page barrier is destroyed instantly when hit with fire or water-based attacks, but you will also take no damage if this barrier is destroyed in this way. While outside of combat, the pages will return to the book until combat continues, meaning that a sneak attack can bypass the barrier only on the first attack before combat starts. You can only use this feature once per long rest, and the roll increases to 4d6 at 14th level.
Lore of a Future Land
At 14th level, the lore you write about the world you visit has a profound effect, becoming near prophetic. Should you choose to sacrifice your diligence as a chronicler by using this power and becoming an active party in the world's story, you can effectively alter the timeline in your favor. As an action and by using an empty book on hand, you may write one of six potential prophetic visions of the near future, but can only perform one per long rest:
- "The Party's Strength Seemed to Increase Tenfold~!" - By prophesying this, roll a 1d12 and increase all ally damage rolls by the amount you roll for their next turn within a 10ft. radius. In addition, any ally that is Poisoned, Charmed, Frightened, Prone, or Restrained is cured of the condition in the same radius of effect.
- "And Lo, the Party was Wise and Stood Fast..." - By prophesying this, you may roll a 1d4 and increase all ally armor class by the amount you roll up to a maximum of 20 for their next turn and within a 10ft. radius. All allies within the radius are also healed of any movement-impairing effects and move backward 5ft.
- "Thus the Foe Bore its Fangs, Yet its Fangs Were Naught?" - By prophesying this, you may roll a 2d8 and decrease the target enemy's next damage roll by the amount you roll. This can only be used as a reaction and when the enemy targeted is within view or you would reasonably know it is in the process of attacking.
- "And Then the Battlefield Grew Tense with Trepidation and Quiet..." - By prophesying this, all enemies and allies within a 30ft. radius must succeed a CHA saving throw equal to your CHA modifier + proficiency + 8. All who fail the save will become Deafened and Poisoned from the enduring silence and the insurmountable tension weighing them down.
- "Luckily for Them, the Party Still had an Ace Up Their Sleeve~!" - By prophesying this, all allies in a 30ft. radius have any and all materials and ammo used in the fight replenished instantly as though it had never been used. This only goes for ammo used in the fight and not ammo brought into the fight that is low. This includes potions, arrows, bolts, throwing knives, beartraps (wink, wink) and so on if they've been used/destroyed. Additionally, you, specifically, replenish one 4th level or lower spell slots and feature uses that do not require a long rest.
- "And Yet the Battle Dragged on... And on Evermore... No Wounds, Just Prejudice." - By prophesying this, you may channel to render all damage that takes place within a 5ft. radius 30ft. away from you to 0 until your next turn. This radius appears as a slightly milky transparent bubble that is visible to all entities.
