Blood Hunter
Base Class: Blood Hunter

The smallest and rarest of the known orders of Blood Hunters, the Order of the mageslayer was initially formed by those wronged by arcane practitioners. From its inception, this order had trained, honed, and perfected their skills and techniques to better accomplish their goals. Many magic users fear the chance of a fully powered Mageslayer hunting them, through some view the possibility as an urban legend similar to the Boogeyman. Occasionally, a mageslayer is recruited to help balance a battle against powerful wizards or sorcerers.

Know Your Enemy

Starting at 3rd level, whenever you use the intelligence (Arcana) skill, you have advantage on any rolls to use it.

Namesake

Starting at 3rd level, you gain the Mageslayer feat gaining the following benefits:

  • When a creature within 5 feet of you casts a spell, you can use your reaction to make a melee weapon attack against that creature.
  • When you damage a creature that is concentrating on a spell, that creature has disadvantage on the saving throw it makes to maintain its concentration.
  • You have advantage on saving throws against spells cast by creatures within 5 feet of you.

Weave-Vision

Starting at 3rd level, you gain the ability to cast detect magic. You can use this feature a number of times per day equal to your proficiency bonus (minimum of 2).

Counter Slash

Starting at 7th level, while you have your Crimson Rite active and spell is cast within 60 feet of you that you can see, you can use reaction to negate the casting as if you cast the counterspell spell. Once this feature is used, you must finish a short or long rest before you can use it again.

Dispelling Strike

Starting at 7th level, while you have your Crimson Rite, you can use your action to strike at a magical effect, object, or device. When you do this, the target is affected as if you cast the dispel magic spell on it. Once you use this feature, you must finish a short or long rest before you can use it again.

Esoteric Wards

Starting at 11th level, you gain advantage on saving throws against spells and other magical effects that target you.

Reflective Parry

Starting at 15th level, when you are targeted by a spell attack that deals you damage, and have your Crimson Rite active, you can use your reaction to roll a d6. On a 5 or 6, the spell is reflected back at the initial attacker. If the result is 1 to 4, the attack is not reflected and proceeds as normal. This feature can be used a number of times per day equal to your proficiency bonus (minimum of 2). This feature cannot be used on damage dealing spells that have a radius effect, like the Fireball spell.

Brand of Anti-Arcana

Starting at 18th level, when you place your Brand of Castigation on a creature, the mark you place is one of anti-magic. While this brand is on the target, the target cannot cast spells and any magic item they are carrying or wearing are nullified. Aside from the normal circumstances, if the branded creature attempts to cast a spell or use a magic item, they take the psychic damage normally associated with Brand of Castigation.
