Base Class: Ranger
As a Battle Intellect Ranger, you gradually become more effective at fighting an enemy the longer you spend fighting it. With every clash, you observe your opponents movements, stance, and resolve, allowing you to gain the upper hand. You can use what you observe to predict, prevent or even manipulate what your opponent will do.
Battle Intellect spells
You learn an additional spell when you reach certain levels in this class, as shown in the Battle Intellect Spells list. Each spell counts as a ranger spell for you, but it doesn’t count against the number of ranger spells you know.
Battle Intellect spell list:
3rd level- Compelled duel
5th level- Calm emotions
9th level- Enemies abound
13th level- Compulsion
17th level- Hold Monster
Observation
Starting at 3rd level. While in combat you learn more about your foes with every move they make, letting you fight them much more efficiently.
Every time you attack or are attacked by an enemy you see within 60 feet of you (regardless of if the attack hits) , they gain one stack of observation from you, with a cap of 5 observation stacks per enemy. For every stack of observation, you gain +1 to attack rolls on that enemy. At 5 stacks, you also gain +2 AC against that enemy.
You can also spend a bonus action to focus on an enemy you see within 60 feet of you and gain one stack of observation on them.
Observation stacks last until your next rest.
Invisible enemies do not gain observation stacks unless you hit them.
Judge of character
At 3rd level. You gain proficiency in insight.
Additionally, you have advantage on insight and persuasion checks against people and creatures you are fighting or have fought before.
Predictable Adversaries
Starting at 7th level. You can now expend enemy observation stacks to perform special actions. You still gain the benefits of the spent stacks for the duration of the actions.
A clear opening- Once per turn, before you make an attack, you can spend observation stacks to add +2 per spent stack to the damage roll if the attack hits. Your enemy gains no observation stacks from this attack.
An obvious windup- When attacked by an enemy within your attack range, you can use your reaction to spend 3 observation points and interrupt them with an attack of your own. If your attack hits, the enemy has disadvantage on their attack against you. Your enemy gains no observation stacks from their attack or your attack during this.
A wavering stance- You can spend a bonus action to feint an attack against an enemy within your attack range. This causes them to dodge 5 feet in the direction of your choice. They cannot be made to move in a direction that puts them in obvious danger.
Additionally, when using extra attack, if all attacks successfully hit, all enemies hit by at least one of the attacks gain an extra stack of observation.
Total Awareness
Starting at 11th level.
Once per long rest, you can enter a state of total awareness of your surroundings for 1 minute. When entering this state, all enemies you see within 60ft of you gain an observation stack. While in this state, enemies gain observation stacks every time you see them attack or be attacked by anything else. You also gain +2 AC for the duration. You can also use A clear opening as many times as you want per turn for the duration.
Additionally, while in this state, if an enemy makes you roll a saving throw, you can use a reaction and spend 3 of their stacks to give yourself advantage.
Read Like a Book
Starting at 15th level.
A clear opening now adds +4 damage per observation stack spent.
Max observation stacks per enemy is now 6. You also gain new abilities to spend stacks on.
Truest of strikes- When attacking an enemy, you can spend 5 observation stacks to guarantee the attack hits (still roll attack to see if you crit). You do not deal bonus damage per stack spent if you use this ability. The enemy gains no stacks from this attack.
Surest of footing- When attacked by an enemy, you can use your reaction and spend 5 observation stacks to guarantee the next attack misses. They gain no observation stacks from this attack.
