Monk
Base Class: Monk

Monks of the Way of the Arcane Mind have learned to extend their control of Ki into the world around them seeking to wield magic with skill that rivals their martial arts. They put time towards learning the arcane arts much like a wizard, studying the secrets of bending the arcane world through their Ki.

Spellcasting

At 3rd level when you choose this tradition, you learn to cast spells through manipulating magic with your Ki. See Spells Rules for the general rules of spellcasting and the Spells Listing for the wizard spell list.

Cantrips

At 3rd level when you choose this tradition, you learn two cantrips of your choice from the wizard spell list. You learn additional wizard cantrips of your choice at higher levels, as shown in the Cantrips Known column of the Monk of the Way of the Arcane Mind table.

Spell Slots

The Monk of the Way of the Arcane Mind table shows how many spell slots you have to cast your spells of 1st level and higher. To cast one of these spells, you must expend a slot of the spell’s level or higher. You regain all expended spell slots when you finish a long rest.

Spells Known of 1st Level and Higher

At 3rd level when you choose this tradition, you learn two 1st-level spells of your choice from the wizard spell list.

The Spells Known column of the Monk of the Way of the Arcane Mind table shows when you learn more wizard spells of your choice. Each of these spells must be of a level for which you have spell slots. For instance, when you reach 4th level in this class, you can learn one new spell of 1st level.

Additionally, when you gain a level in this class, you can choose one of the wizard spells you know and replace it with another spell from the wizard spell list, which also must be of a level for which you have spell slots.

Spellcasting Ability

As a monk, wisdom is your spellcasting ability for your spells, since your magic is dependent on your control of Ki. You use your Wisdom whenever a spell refers to your spellcasting ability. In addition, you use your Wisdom modifier when setting the saving throw DC for a spell you cast and when making an attack roll with one.

Spell save DC = 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Wisdom modifier

Spell attack modifier = your proficiency bonus + your Wisdom modifier

Active Meditation

Starting when you choose this tradition at 3rd level, you have honed your arcane skills and gained the ability to focus even in the most dangerous of situations. Whenever you cast a spell that requires concentration, you are able to hold the spell for double the duration (maximum of 24 hours). Additionally you are able to spend 1 Ki point to automatically succeed on concentration checks.

Martial Spellwork

At 6th level, you learn to switch between your martial arts and spellwork with incredible speed. Whenever you attack OR cast a spell you can make an unarmed strike as a bonus action as normal or use flurry of blows. Additionally, when you use your flurry of blows you can either choose to make two unarmed strikes or cast any cantrip that you know regardless of casting time.

Master of Mind and Soul

Beginning at 11th level, You have trained enough using your Ki to bend other magics to your will, granting you the ability to transform your Ki into arcane energy. Whenever you cast a spell, you can spend 2 ki points to cast the spell at a higher level without requiring or using a spell slot of that level. It instead uses the original spell's level for the spell slot while retaining the benefits of casting it at the higher level.

Initially it takes 2 ki points to cast a spell at a single level higher, then it takes 1 ki point for every level beyond that.

Casting a spell in this way causes great strain on you. If you use this feature you cannot use your flurry of blows on the same turn.

(Example: If you were to cast fireball (a 3rd level spell) and wanted more bang for your buck, you could spend 4 ki points to cast it at 6th level. 2 ki points to make it 4th level, then 2 more to bring it up to 5th then 6th. This only requires the 3rd level spell slot and allows you to access a spell slot level that would not be available to you in this class otherwise.)

Resonating Ki

At 17th level, you have achieved the height of arcane prowess through the extension of your ki, breaking the barriers between living beings. Any time you cast a spell with a range of self you can spend 4 ki points to extend your ki and grant the same effects of that spell onto 3 other willing creatures of your choice that you can see within 120 feet of you.

If you cast a spell that requires an attack roll, or for the target to make a saving throw, using this feature, then each effected creature must use the spell on its next turn or the spell dissipates. If the spell's duration is longer than instantaneous then the spell will end on all effected creatures only if it ends on you. If the spell requires concentration then only you have to concentrate on it. You have disadvantage on any concentration checks made for a spell cast in this way.

If at any time after using this feature, one of the effected creatures moves farther than 120 feet from you, the spell will then dissipate from that creature.

Casting a spell in this way causes great strain on you. If you use this feature you cannot use your flurry of blows on the same turn.

This feature can only be used once per short or long rest.
