Base Class: Monk
The Way of the Flying Fists teaches its students to move with incredible reaction speeds and instantaneous counterattacks. A monk of such an order truly fights with a flurry of blows, their fists a blur as they utilize lightning fast techniques to exploit every possible opening in their opponent's defenses. And hands that jump quickly to attack react just as quickly to defend.
A monk trained in the way of the flying fists can thrive as an exhibitionist or performer, but when it comes to battle there are few who can keep up.
Flying Fists
When you choose this tradition at 3rd level, you gain three reactions: Parry, Riposte, and Counterattack.
Parry. When another creature damages you with a melee attack, you can spend a ki point and use your reaction to reduce the damage by the number you roll on your martial arts die + your Dexterity modifier.
Riposte. When a creature misses you with a melee attack, you can spend a ki point and use your reaction to make a martial arts attack against the creature.
Counterattack. When a creature hits you with a melee attack, you can spend a ki point and use your reaction to make a martial arts attack against the creature.
Invisible Strike
Starting at 6th level, you can use your ki to move faster than the untrained eye can see. You may expend 1 ki point to make an extra martial arts attack this round, either when you take the Attack action on your turn, when you take the Martial Arts or Flurry of Blows bonus action on your turn, or to gain an additional reaction at any point during the round. Your attack is so fast that any creature wishing to see the blow must make a Wisdom (Perception) check contested by your attack roll. On a tie or lower, they do not see the blow. A creature with a passive perception higher than your attack roll automatically notices. Once you use this feature, you may not use it again until the beginning of your next turn.
Counter Stance
Starting at 11th level, your ki enhanced reflexes can turn your patient defense into instant retaliation. If on your last turn you took the dodge action and spent at least 1 ki point, Attacks of Opportunity, Parry, Riposte, and Counterattack do not use your reaction.
Unmatched Speed
At 17th level, you gain the ability to make an overwhelming number of attacks even without the use of ki. You are no longer required to expend a ki point in order to use your Flying Fists, Invisible Blow, or Counter Stance feature.
