Base Class: Monk
Many wizards and arcane researchers have long believed that the mystical power wielded by monks, known as ki, is in fact arcane in nature. According to them, ki is just another version of the magical energy wizards, sorcerers and other spellcasters use in their day-to-day lives. This theory is widely detested by most monastic orders, believing that these arcanists know nothing about what they speak of.
However, some monks have embraced this theory. These monks merge their knowledge of ki with arcane understanding, practicing ways to combine martial arts with spellcraft.
Spellcasting
Beginning at 3rd level when you choose this tradition, you augment your knowledge of ki and your prowess with unarmed combat with the ability to cast spells. See Spells Rules for the general rules of spellcasting and the Spells Listing for the wizard spell list.
Cantrips
You learn two cantrips of your choice from the wizard spell list. You learn an additional wizard cantrip of your choice at 10th level.
Spell Slots
The Way of the Magus Spellcasting table shows how many spell slots you have to cast your wizard spells of 1st level and higher. To cast one of these spells, you must expend a slot of the spell’s level or higher. You regain all expended spell slots when you finish a long rest.
For example, if you know the 1st-level spell shield and have a 1st-level and a 2nd-level spell slot available, you can cast shield using either slot.
Spells Known of 1st-Level and Higher
You know three 1st-level wizard spells of your choice. The Spells Known column of the Way of the Magus Spellcasting table shows when you learn more wizard spells of 1st level or higher. Each of these spells must be of a level for which you have spell slots. For instance, when you reach 7th level in this class, you can learn one new spell of 1st or 2nd level.
Whenever you gain a level in this class, you can replace one of the wizard spells you know with another spell of your choice from the wizard spell list. The new spell must be of a level for which you have spell slots.
Spellcasting Ability
Wisdom is your spellcasting ability for your wizard spells. You use Wisdom whenever a spell refers to your spellcasting ability. In addition, you use your Wisdom modifier when setting the saving throw DC for a wizard spell you cast and when making an attack roll with one.
Spell save DC = 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Wisdom modifier
Spell attack modifier = your proficiency bonus + your Wisdom modifier

Arcane Acolyte
At 3rd level, you’ve gained a heightened understanding of the arcane. You gain proficiency in the Intelligence (Arcana) skill and can now use a monk weapon as your spellcasting focus.
Enlightened Magus
At 6th level, you’ve learnt how to use your ki and arcane abilities in tandem. You gain the following abilities:
Spell Deflection. When you’re targeted by a ranged spell attack, you can use your reaction to lower the damage you take from the attack by 1d10 + your Wisdom modifier + your monk level. If you reduce the damage to 0, you can catch the spell using a mixture of your ki and arcane prowess. If you catch a spell in this way, you can spend 1 ki point to make a ranged spell attack with the spell you just caught, as part of the same reaction. The spell has the same range and function as it would normally have and deals the same amount of damage, but you use your own spell attack modifier for the attack. If a successful hit triggers a saving throw, it uses your monk spell save DC.
Arcane Flurry. After using your action to make a melee attack or to cast a spell, you can spend 1 ki point to cast one of your cantrips as a bonus action.
Ki-Empowered Casting
At 11th level, your ki and arcane abilities have melded into one. As a bonus action, you can convert ki points into spell slots or vice versa. If you convert a spell slot into ki points, you regain a number of ki points equal to the level of the expended spell slot. If you wish to convert ki points into spell slots, you must reference the Ki Conversion Table below and expend the required number of ki points for the spell slot you wish to gain. A spell slot you gain by expending ki points cannot be of a level higher than 4th.
Ki Conversion Table
| SPELL SLOT LEVEL | KI POINT COST |
|---|---|
| 1st | 3 |
| 2nd | 5 |
| 3rd | 6 |
| 4th | 7 |
Bestowments of the Grand Magus
At 17th level, you’re able to use your ki to tap into greater forms of magic. Choose two spells from the wizard spell list, one of 5th level and one of 6th level. These spells count as monk spells for you, and you can cast each of them once per long rest. When you cast them, you must provide the required spell components as normal.
