Bard
Base Class: Bard

Founded by Vhaaliss Morningstar in order to support and advise commanders and inspire troops, members are called 'vanguards'.  Through a weaving of magic and the harmony of song, vanguards are able to bolster and protect their allies.

Vanguard Proficiencies

When you join the College of the Vanguard at 3rd level, you gain proficiency with medium armor, shields, and a single martial weapon of your choice.  If you’re proficient with a simple or martial melee weapon, you can use it as a spell casting focus for your bard spells.  Your specialized training with this chosen weapon binds combat ability with a mastery of frequency and resonance that all things possess.  You join the two as a focus for your martial and magical abilities and may use your charisma modifier to hit and damage rolls for attacks made with it.

Resonant Inspiration

When you join the College of the Vanguard at 3rd level, you gain the ability to weave a song of resonant magic that rallies your allies with purpose and movement.

As a bonus action, you can expend one use of your Bardic Inspiration to rally your allies to act with hope and purpose. When you do so, choose a number of creatures you can see and that can see you within 60 feet of you, up to a number equal to your Charisma modifier (minimum of one). Each of them gains 5 temporary hit points. When a creature gains these temporary hit points, it can immediately use its reaction to move up to its speed, without provoking opportunity attacks.

The number of temporary hit points increases when you reach certain levels in this class, increasing to 8 at 5th level, 11 at 10th level, and 14 at 15th level.

Trusted Protector

At 6th level, you adopt a style of fighting as your specialty. Choose one of the following options. You can’t take a Fighting Style option more than once, even if something in the game lets you choose again.

Interception

When a creature you can see hits a target, other than you, within 5 feet of you with an attack, you can use your reaction to reduce the damage the target takes by 1d10 + your proficiency bonus (to a minimum of 0 damage). You must be wielding a shield or a simple or martial weapon to use this reaction.

Protection

When a creature you can see attacks a target other than you that is within 5 feet of you, you can use your reaction to impose disadvantage on the attack roll. You must be wielding a shield.

Resonant Commander

Starting at 6th level, you can sense the resonations and patterns from those in the throws of battle and affect the flow to your advantage. When you grant Bardic Inspiration to an ally, that ally can use their reaction immediately after receiving the inspiration dice to make one weapon attack against a creature of their choice. Also when you or an ally within 60 feet of you that you can see is targeted by a melee attack, you may use your reaction to cast the Command spell using a Bard spell slot, targeting the attacker. You may only target the one attacker in this instance, regardless of the spell slot level used. For every spell slot level above level 1 used to cast the command spell by this feature, the spell save DC increases by +1.

Mantle of the Battlemaster

Starting at 14th level, you may spend a bardic inspiration to cloak up to 6 allies, including yourself, in a protective field that is tuned to a particular damage source.  Using a bonus action, spend a bardic inspiration and choose 6 people within 60 feet of you to gain resistance to one damage source that is not bludgeoning, piercing or slashing damage.  This protection lasts until it is used to reduce damage from the damage source.
