Warlock
Base Class: Warlock

The Children of the Mistress are a group of warlocks who gain their powers directly from the Mistress of Shadows, the strongest and most prominent of the Gods of Einess. In order to become a true patron of the Holy Mother, one must sacrifice their "Purity of Mind." This can mean many things, such as offering their most beloved possession, giving the Mistress their Maidenhood/Squiredom, or even spilling their own blood upon her altar. What is known, however, Is that once their sacrifice is given, the head priests will give them a special mark on their inner thigh, resembling the Mistress of Shadows' sign, a Black Bird with an olive branch. This symbolizes the dark, yet tender nature of the Holy Mother, and her vow to lead her children to everlasting peace.

This symbol is always imprinted on the inner thigh to represent her influence on her follower's lives. The thigh holds the most weight of one's body when they are standing, and moves their knees when they are running towards or away from threats. More than power though, using them as a pillow is a sign of love to many, and between them is where life is created. By imprinting the Night Mother's tattoo on their thigh, these warlocks are showing how the Night Mother empowers them, and gives them tender feelings of happiness.

Most people choose the hid the fact that they are Warlocks of the Night Mother, as their powers over Shadow frighten those who oppose her rule over this land. What can be said, however, is that most who choose this domain find themselves in contact directly with the Queen of Shadows. Warlocks often hear her voice when they are alone, where she whispers deeds she wants to be done or offering gentle encouragements when needed. In rare cases, there are even times when she will enter your dreams to speak to you directly or show you events of the future. Many who have spoken to their true mother find comfort in her words, claiming her love feels like the love of an actual mother. Whatever tasks she wants to be done, however, are often odd and unrelated, at least to mortals. Sometimes she asks that you cure a village of disease, other times she wants you to kidnap an orphan and bring them to her altar. Other times she just wants you to go fishing and have a little break. To what ends does she plan on doing with this? Who knows.

Warlocks who wish to use these abilities outside of the Mistress of Shadows' might, might wish to to seek out these powers from a secondary figure of power in a neutral alignment, such as the Raven Queen or Gond.

In terms of abilities, early on, these warlocks can hear the whispers of the Mistress, listening in to their pleas for knowledge, and giving them insightful information. They later on learn ways to protect themselves and their allies, and turn back would-be attacks with their might. Finally, as they join as one, they gain the full power of the Night Mother, and can lash out with unholy power to strike down those who dare try to sever the bond of Mother and Child.

Mother's Insight

Starting at 1st level, your Mother starts whispering knowledge into your ear during times of need. You can choose to change your INT, DEX, or WIS modifier to your CHA modifier to Arcana, Religion, Survival, and Stealth rolls.

Mother's Kindness

Starting at 6th level, your mother offers you a boon in the form of a gift: a method to protect yourself from harm for a short time, a way to feel at home whenever you are not, and a way to give your mother's love to others around you.

Gift of Comfort

Mother has given you a way to stay comfortable anywhere. Whenever you are taking a short or long rest, you can apply a 30ft sphere zone of the Night Mother's influence.

For short rests, you can create a small field of transparent energy that makes it appear as those the area you are resting is filled with terrifying shadow beasts. Creatues need to pass a Perception or Arcana check equal to your spell save DC in order to tell that the area is being manipulated. Creatures and humanoids can see through the illusions if they have True Sight. Creatures that fail the check are immediately frightened by the beasts and are not able to approach your campsite.

For long rests, you are able to cast a single spell that is not a cantrip without using a spell slot, as long as the spell is either from the Illusion, Enchantment, or Abjuration schools of magic.

Gift of Love

Mother has gifted you her love. Whenever you finish a Short Rest, you gain temporary hit points equal to your Cha Modifier + your warlock level. Additionally, while you have these temporary hitpoints, you gain resistance to nonmagical Piercing, Bludgeoning, and Slashing attacks. Radiant damage ignores this resistance.

Gift of Peace

Mother has gifted you a way to calm yourself during the most troubled times. You are now immune to the Frightened and Charmed ailments and can give advantage to allies within 10 feet of you advantage on saving throws against Charm and Fear effects.

Additionally, all creatures besides yourself under the effect of Mother's Kindness who pass their Frightened or Charmed status are now immune to all forms of Fear and Charm effects for 24 hours.

Mother's Protection

Starting at 10th level, your bond with Mother deepens. She has given you a way to strike at those who seek to hurt you: When you take damage from another living creature, you can add that damage to the next damage roll you make. This damage bonus lasts for 6 rounds, and fades afterwards. The damage counts as magical Force damage and ignores damage resistances. You use this feature a number of times equal to your CHA modifier and is restored after a long rest. For every attack you miss before you land a blow that lets you deal this extra damage, the extra damage decreases by 2d6. The extra damage cannot be lower than your CHA mod + 3. You can do this an equal amount of times to your CHA mod + Prof, and recover uses on a short rest.

Mother Eternal

The bond that you and Mother share is eternal now. Fragments of your souls have merged, solidifying your eternal vow to each other, and with her soul, you can strike back at those who wish to harm her. If you fall below 0 hp, you immediately recover your Warlock level in hp, and can immediately attack them with a Cantrip or Weapon attack at advantage. This can only be done once until you finish a long rest.
