Blood Hunter
Base Class: Blood Hunter

The Order of the Reaper is a timeless order, having been given the secrets of blood magic by entities older than the gods and refining them to complete their sacred duty of ushering those who remain far longer than they should to further beyond. Reapers seek out and study the moment of death, the truths of the transition and how it can be corrupted by unholy powers to rise once more, becoming evident to those who join this sacred order. Tuning their abilities to extract the very soul of both the living and the dead, these remarkably rare blood hunters are a broad mix of either; zealous individuals that believe themselves to hold a great universal responsibility to be the saviors of every lost soul they can find, or selfish individuals that realize their power holds the ability for them to take and collect souls as either currency to be spent or cells of power to be used.

Rite of the Grim

When you join this order at 3rd level, you learn the Rite of the Grim esoteric rite (detailed below).

Rite of the Grim. Your rite damage is necrotic damage. While the rite is active, you gain the following benefits:

  • Your weapon causes undead creatures to make their attacks against you with disadvantage.
  • You gain resistance to necrotic damage. If you already have resistance to necrotic damage, you gain immunity instead.
  • You deal one additional hemocraft die of rite damage when you hit a creature that has been marked with the Curse of the Reaper.

Deathbringer's Curse

Beginning at 3rd level, your studies in this timeless blood hunter order grant you advanced mastery over blood curses and the undead. You gain resistance to necrotic damage, when you roll initiative and have no uses of your Blood Maledict feature remaining, you regain one use, and your blood curses can target any creature, whether it has blood or not.

Brand of Harvesting

Once you reach 11th level, you learn how to expose a fragment of your foe’s essence with your Brand of Castigation, leaving them vulnerable to your Crimson Rite. Whenever you damage a branded creature with your Crimson Rite, the branded creature has disadvantage on saving throws against you while it remains branded. In addition, your weapon deals one additional hemocraft die of rite damage to a branded creature.

Blood Curse of the Reaper

Soul Sacrifice

Upon reaching 18th level, you learn to protect your fading life by ingesting one of your confiscated souls. When you are reduced to 0 hit points while you have a captured soul on your person, but don’t die outright, the soul is consumed and you drop to 1 hit point instead. If you have multiple trapped souls on your person, you choose which one is lost.
