Paladin
Base Class: Paladin

Paladins of this oath devote themselves to no other. Although mighty beyond compare, their excess of pride make them agents of their own demise. In their delusions of grandeur, they wouldn't have it any other way.

TENETS OF HUBRIS

The tenets of the Oath of Hubris exemplify pride to the fullest. Paladins who adhere to the wisdoms of this oath are servants to no one but themselves.

Defy the Gods, Share in their Egotism. The gods above are selfish. Why should you be any less so? Defy them as they did us. What have the gods ever done for us, anyway?

Self-reliance is Strength. Your own strength is what carries you to legend. You and you alone is all you need for victory.

Wisdom through Self-righteousness. Be confidant in all that you say and do. You are never wrong.

Victory and Glory at all costs. Destroy all who stand in the way of your own glory. That your name be remembered for all time.

Give in to Nemesis. Seek out your own downfall. Go out in a blaze of glory. For the candle that burns the quickest, shines brightest. Bright enough to outshine the gods themselves. Their jealousy shall be proof of your brilliance.

Channel Divinity

At 3rd Level, You gain the following Channel Divinity options:

Excess of Pride. If you hit a creature with a weapon attack that delivered a Divine Smite, you can use a Reaction to gain an amount of temporary Hit Points equal to your Paladin Level. This amount is doubled if your target is slain by the attack. While you have temporary Hit Points through this Channel Divinity, you deal an additional 1d8 force damage whenever you hit with a weapon attack using a melee weapon. These temporary Hit Points last until you finish a short or long rest.

Defiance of Descent. As a Bonus Action, you become resistant to all damage types for one minute. For the duration, if a creature deals damage to you with an attack or spell, it is dealt an amount of force damage equal to half your Paladin Level (rounded down).

Oath Spells

At 3rd Level, You gain oath spells at the paladin levels listed in the Oath of Hubris Spells table below.

5th

Enhance Ability, Shadow Blade

9th

13th

17th

Aura of Vanity

At 7th Level, You seek to serve only yourself in your pride, depriving others of any glory you may desire. A 10 ft. spherical aura is centered around you, moving as you move. You make weapon attacks and ability checks with advantage when made against hostile creatures within this aura. You also make saving throws imposed by hostile creatures within this aura with advantage. However, if a friendly creature starts its turn within this aura, the next ability check, attack roll, or saving throw it makes before the start of its next turn is made with disadvantage.

As an Action, you can dismiss the aura for one minute, maintaining concentration on the dismissal of its effect as if the dismissal were a spell.

At 18th Paladin Level, the range of this aura increases to 30 ft.

Inescapable Hubris

At 15th Level, Higher powers have abandoned you, leaving you to your own devices. Once per turn, when you make a weapon attack, you must wager an amount of potential additional damage before making the attack roll. The minimum wager amount is 5, while the maximum wager amount is equal to half your Hit Point maximum. Upon hitting with this attack, you deal an additional amount of force damage equal to your wager. On a miss, you take an additional amount of force damage equal to your wager if the target of your attack deals damage to you with an attack or spell on its next turn.

Additionally, whenever you deal radiant damage, you deal force damage instead. Your weapon attacks and Paladin features ignore immunity and resistance to force damage. This includes imminties and resistances you yourself may have against force damage.

Downfall into Nemesis

At 20th Level, Once per long rest, You can assume the form of your own folly and demise. Using your Action, you undergo a transformation. For 1 minute, you gain the following benefits:

  • You can attack three times, instead of twice, whenever you take the Attack Action on your turn.
  • You roll a d6 instead of a d20 whenever making an attack roll for a weapon attack. A roll of 3 or lower on the d6 is treated as a roll of 1 on a d20, and a roll of 4 or higher on the d6 is treated as a roll of 20 on a d20.
  • If you hit with a weapon attack on your turn that dealt additional force damage through your "Inescapable Hubris" feature, you can choose to further deal an additional amount of force damage with the attack equal to your Hit Point maximum. This additional force damage is instead equal to 150 if your Hit Point maximum is less than 150. However, you die instantly at the end of that turn. When you die through this benefit, your body is reduced to a pile of fine gray dust, as though you were slain by the Disinigrate spell. The body of the creature you hit when using this benefit also becomes dust in this way if slain by your attack.
