Base Class: Sorcerer
Your abilities are unlike that of other sorcerers. Instead of gaining exotic powers such as the psychic prowess of a beholder or the chaotic energy of the planes, your bloodline enhances your body's innate magical abilities, making them more potent and eventually, evolving them into new ones thought impossible. However, such advancement always provides setbacks, and you must learn when the need of your evolutionary might is most dire, or suffer the potentially harrowing consequences.
Arcane Evolution: Enhance
At 1st level, the amount of magic flowing through your veins is overwhelming, which can be used to amplify your spells. But, evolving your magical skill at such a quickened rate can leave you drained for a short time thereafter. Once per turn, you can apply one of the following effects to a spell of 1st level or higher that you cast:
- You can add a +2 bonus to all spell attack rolls made with the spell.
- You can increase the spell save DC of that spell by 1.
- You can deal an additional 1d6 force damage on one damage roll made with the spell. (For example, a Fire Bolt cantrip affected by this would deal 1d10 fire + 1d6 force damage, but one ray of a Scorching Ray spell would deal 2d6 fire + 1d6 force damage, while the other rays would be normal.)
When you apply one of these effects, the following effects are applied to you at the end of your current turn, and last until the end of your next turn.
- You subtract 2 from all spell attack rolls you make.
- You decrease the save DC of all spells you cast by 1.
- You subtract 1d6 damage from all spells you cast that deal damage.
You cannot use this feature if you have already used a different feature of this subclass on the spell. Finally, you can use this feature a number times per long rest equal to your proficiency bonus.
Arcane Evolution: Burst
At 6th level, your magic is able to reach levels of power not thought possible, which can take away more arcane power than usual. Once per turn, when you cast a spell, it is cast at one spell level higher, even if you can’t normally cast it at that level, while still using the spell slot of the original level. You also expend spell slots of levels of your choice which are lower than the spell’s new level caused by Burst when you use this option. These spell slots must also have a combined level equal to the spell’s new level caused by Burst. For example, when you cast a spell at 5th level and use Burst, it has 6th level slot effects. You must then expend one 5th level spell slot and one 1st level spell slot, or could expend one 3rd level, one 2nd level, and one 1st level spell slot, or some other combination of spell slots. You cannot use this feature if the original level of the spell is 9th level or you have already used a different feature of this subclass on the spell.
Arcane Evolution: Transfer
At 14th level, your abilities can make using magic much easier, as casting a spell can be not powered by your magical energy, but rather your life force and physical energy. When casting a spell, you can choose to not expend a spell slot. If you do not expend a spell slot, you take 1d8 necrotic damage for each level of the spell. This necrotic damage cannot be reduced or negated in any way. Furthermore, you cannot use reactions until the end of your next turn and can only use an action, bonus action, or move on your next turn. If you choose to Cast a Spell with your action or bonus action, you can only cast cantrips. Finally, this feature can only be used on leveled spells of 5th level or lower, and if you haven't already used a different feature of this subclass on the spell.
Avatar of Evolution
At 18th level, your prowess with transformative magic is perfected. You learn the alter self, polymorph and shapechange spells, which count as sorcerer spells for you, but don't count against the number of spells you know. You can cast alter self at 2nd level at will without expending a spell slot; you can cast polymorph at 4th level targeting only yourself once without expending a spell slot, and you can do so again when you finish a long rest; you can cast shapechange at 9th level once without expending a spell slot, and you regain the ability to do so after seven days have passed. You can also cast these spells normally using any spell slots you have.
