Monk
Base Class: Monk

The strategy and tactics of unconventional warfare, guerrilla warfare, and espionage purportedly practiced by the ninja. Ninjas are assassins, scouts, and spies who are hired mostly by territorial leaders. Despite being able to assassinate in stealth, the primary role is spying and scouting. Ninjas are mainly noted for their use of stealth, and deception. They use this to avoid direct confrontation if possible, which enabled them to escape large groups of opposition. Ninjutsu includes methods of gathering information and techniques of non-detection, avoidance, and misdirection. Ninjutsu involves training in freerunning, disguise, escape, concealment, archery, and medicine. Skills relating to espionage and assassination are highly useful to warring factions.

Ninja Arts

When you choose this tradition at 3rd level, your special martial arts training leads you to master the use of certain weapons. This path also includes instruction in infiltration and gathering intel. You gain the following benefits.

  • You are proficient in Longbows and Longswords and they count as monk weapons for you.
  • You gain proficiency in stealth and deception if you aren't already proficient, and you gain expertise in those skills.
  • You can draw a monk weapon that has the thrown property as part of the attack you make with the weapon. In addition, you can now use your Flurry of Blows to make two ranged attacks, instead of unarmed strikes, with monk weapons that have the thrown property.

Information Gathering

At 3rd level, you gain the ability to peer at a creature and magically discern certain information about its capabilities and vulnerabilities. As a bonus action and by spending 1 ki you mark a creature you can see for 24 hours or until you lose your concentration (as if you were concentrating on a spell) and immediately learn whether the creature has any damage immunities, resistances, or vulnerabilities and what they are. When attacking a creature marked by Information Gathering you may spend 1 ki. Until the end of your turn, you can deal extra damage equal to one of your martial arts die to the target whenever you hit it with an unarmed strike or a monk weapon, and if you had advantage on the attack.

Smoke Bomb

At 6th level, you gain the ability to create and throw smoke bombs. Smoke bombs are considered light, finesse, thrown (60) monk weapons that you are proficient in. As an action, a character can throw a smoke bomb at a point up to 60 feet away. You may throw the smoke bomb by sacrificing an attack from your attack action, or as a reaction from getting hit by a ranged attack that you can see, potentially causing that attack to miss. when the smoke bomb strikes the ground or a creature it emits a cloud of smoke that creates a heavily obscured area in a 10-foot radius. A moderate wind (at least 10 miles per hour) disperses the smoke in 4 rounds; a strong wind (20 or more miles per hour) disperses it in 1 round. You may create and store a number of smoke bombs equal to your proficiency bonus taking 1 minute to create each bomb and this ability to create more recovers on a short or long rest.

In addition, your training with smoke bombs has granted you blindsight with a range of 10 feet.

Infiltrator

By 11th level, you have mastered your ability to getting to any place or position you or a group may need to get to. You can use your ki to duplicate the effects of certain spells. As an action, you can spend 2 ki points to cast dimension door, pass without trace, spider climb, water walk without providing material components. You can spend 1 additional ki point per creature to target additional willing creatures for spider climb.

Blade Flurry

At 17th level, your ability to size up an opponent and swing your weapon has become second nature. When you use the Attack action with an unarmed strike or a monk weapon on your turn, you can make one unarmed strike or monk weapon attack as a bonus action, and when you make a flurry of blows attack you can now use a monk weapon or an unarmed attack. In addition, when you use your information gathering now takes a free action to activate and the damage bonus gained by it lasts until the beginning of your next turn.
