Blood Hunter
Base Class: Blood Hunter

Where most Blood Hunters sought to defeat terrors without, those who would go on to found the Order of the Sanguine Blade hunted down the terrors within. The preyed on monsters that hid amongst the living: vampires, doppelgangers, and lycanthropes. By dissecting and experimenting with these creatures, they uncovered an ability known as hemokinesis, which they consider to be the purest form of hemocraft. These hunters have direct control over every ounce of blood in their body, and use it to their advantage. Today, they operate out of isolated fortresses, honing their techniques with an obsessive methodology. They are lacking in social graces, striving only to improve their abilities as blood mages.

Rite of Ichor

When you join this order at 3rd level, you learn the Rite of Ichor esoteric rite (detailed below).

Rite of Ichor. Your rite damage is the same as your weapon damage. Your weapon becomes slick with your hemokinetic blood, granting you increased control over the weapon. While the rite is active, you gain the following benefits:

  • When you damage a creature with this rite, the creature loses max HP equal to the rite damage. The creature's max health is restored on a short or long rest.
  • By using the blood on your weapon to guide your strikes, you can use your Intelligence modifier for attack and damage rolls instead of Strength or Dexterity.
  • Your rite weapon is considered at least a +1 magic weapon at the 7th level. This bonus increases to +2 at the 11th level, and +3 at the 15th.

Hemokinesis

Beginning at 3rd level, your ancient order teaches you to directly manipulate blood with your mind. You can employ this in various ways at the discretion of your DM. Here are some example uses:

  • Crystalize some blood to form a small item such as a key or a throwing dagger.
  • Flush toxins from your bloodstream.
  • Slow your heart rate to play dead.
  • Heal minor cuts or bruises.
  • Cause a creature within 15ft of you to feel lightheaded.
  • Cause a creature within 15tf of you to have an increased heart rate, causing them to sweat.

This ability also grants you an additional use of Blood Maledict. In combat, you can use Hemokinesis as a bonus action.

Scarlet Potion

Upon reaching 7th level, your order grants you an ornately decorated vial with a silver stopper. As you bleed from your hemocraft, the vial fills with a special potion that draws on the residual energy generated by your blood magic. Even the Order of the Mutant hasn’t unraveled how this potion works, as it is a well guarded secret. The vial has odd magic guarding it. If lost, it returns to you by the next dawn, and if anyone but you dares to touch it, their body is wracked with mind-numbing pain.

When you consume your Scarlet Potion, heal for half of the damage you have dealt to yourself through rolls of your hemocraft die this combat. Additionally, the potion prevents you from taking damage the next time you amplify a blood curse, and restores a single use of Blood Maledict.

Drinking the potion consumes a bonus action. The potion can be used once per short rest.

Brand of Contamination

Beginning at 11th level, your Brand of Castigation contaminates the blood of the branded creature with your own blood. Branded creatures have have their movement speed halved and and have disadvantage on constitution saving throws. When a branded creature's hit points drop to zero, restore one use of Blood Maledict. Your Rite of Ichor must be active to apply these effects.

Blood Curse of Perforation

At 15th level, your intensive training has honed your hemokinetic abilities. You can control the blood of your enemies nearly as well as you control own, allowing you to cause sudden, violent hemorrhaging in your foes. You gain the Blood Curse of Perforation for your Blood Maledict feature. This doesn’t count against your number of blood curses known.

Blood Curse of Perforation:

As an action, choose one creature you can see within 30 feet of you and inflict it with bleeding. The creature loses 3d4 max hit points. At the start of each of its turns, the creature must make a Constitution save against your hemocraft save dc. If it fails, it loses another 3d4 max hit points. If it succeeds, the curse ends.

Amplify. Bleeding causes creatures to lose 5d4 max hit points instead of 3d4.

Blackened Blood

Upon reaching 18th level, you have learned to tap into the true potential of your blood, which now runs black. Your Rite of Ichor now causes your attacks to crit on a roll of 19 or 20. When you land a critical hit while using your Rite of Ichor, double your rite damage until the rite is ended. This doubling occurs before the critical hit lands.
