Base Class: Paladin
The Oath of the Scourge paladins seek to use the power of Undeath to its full potential in order to establish dominance over both life and death. They raise armies of the dead in order to do their bidding and overcome any resistance they may encounter.
Tenets of the Scourge
The Tenets of the Scourge can vary among paladins, depending on their goals in (un)life and their training and specific origin of their powers.
Deny Oblivion. All dead are destined to be forgotten. Through undeath, ones soul staves off oblivion.
Never submit to Entropy. Undeath is not breaking the cycle of Life and Death, but rather reversing it. You refuse to submit to unfair laws of the nature.
Waste Not, Want Not. Body, mind and soul of a mortal is the most sacred gift in existence. Do not allow it to go to waste.
Rule the Horde. You shall lead the undying hordes to accomplish your goals, and all shall tremble at your approach.
Oath of the Scourge Spells
An Oath of the Scourge paladin loses previously gained oath spells and instead gains the following Scourge spells at the paladin levels listed.
| Paladin Level | Spells |
|---|---|
| 3rd | hex, inflict wounds |
| 5th | spiritual weapon, darkness |
| 9th | animate dead, bestow curse |
| 13th | blight, shadow of moil |
| 17th | contagion, dominate person |
Channel Divinity
An Oath of the Scourge paladin of 3rd level or higher gains the following two Channel Divinity options.
Shadow of Death. As an action, the paladin targets one creature he or she can see within 30 feet of him or her, tugging at the primal fear of death present in all living creatures. The target must make a Charisma saving throw. On a failed save, the target is overwhelmed with thoughts about its own demise and is paralyzed.
Unleash the Horde. As an action, a wave of deathly energy erupts from the paladin. Paladin’s allies within 30 feet of the him or her gain temporary hit points equal to number of d4s equal to paladin's proficiency bonus, and can perform one attack as a bonus action until the start of paladin's next turn.
Profane Smite
Your Divine Smite now deals necrotic damage, and instead of dealing additional 1d8 damage to fiends and undead, it deals it to celestials and fey.
Aura of Scorn
Starting at 7th level you, as well any ally within 10 feet of you, gain a bonus to melee weapon attack rolls equal to your Charisma modifier (minimum of +1). A creature can benefit from this feature from only one paladin at a time.
At 18th level, the range of this aura increases to 30 feet.
Army of the Dead
At 15th level, the paladin affirms his or her mastery over the undead minions.
When you raise an undead from a corpse, that undead is considered to be proficient with any weapons and armors it carried at the moment of its death, and is raised with those items equipped.
Whenever at least one of your undead minions is within 5 ft of you, you are considered to be under the effect of half-cover.
Once per turn, as a free action you can order one of your undead minions to use Help action.
Revenant Lord
At 20th level, you can assume the form of a specter of death, taking on an appearance you choose. For example, a pair of bone wings may sprout from your back, and your visage turns skeletal.
Using your action, you undergo a transformation. For 1 minute, you gain the following benefits:
- When an undead under your control within 60 feet is brought to 0 hit points, as a reaction you can heal them for number of hit points equal to 1d10 + your Charisma modifier.
- Once per turn, when an enemy is brought to 0 hit points by you or an undead under your control, you regain number of hit points equal to 1d10 + your Charisma modifier.
- As a Bonus action, you can evoke powers of undeath and grant yourself and all allies within 30 feet one of the following benefits that lasts until the start of your next turn:
- Increase movement speed by 10 feet. Enemies have disadvantage on Attacks of Opportunity against them.
- Grant effects of half-cover.
- Grant the ability to use Attack of Opportunity against any other creature when they enter their reach.
Once you use this feature, you can't use it again until you finish a long rest.
