Monk
Base Class: Monk

Subject as they are to great a many volumes of curious and forgotten lore, these monks focus on opening the minds of those they seek to harm, only to shove in fractured and abhorrent foundational truths that shatter and rend the fabric of reality. Through meditation and careful practice, these monks can become numb to the usual fears and temptations of the universe, and learn a careful methodology by which they can safely observe the unobservable.

Lorespear Strike

Beginning at 3rd level when choosing this tradition, you can choose to tap and strike at vital points along an intelligent creature's aura before violently driving a maddening fragment of abhorrent lore into their psyche, forever marring them. When you take the Attack action on your turn, you may choose to replace all damage dealt by your unarmed attacks until the beginning of your next turn with psychic damage. Creatures with an Intelligence score of 3 or lower are immune to this damage.

In addition, if you hit with three or more unarmed attacks that deal psychic damage from this class feature in one turn against the same creature, you can force them to make a Wisdom saving throw with a DC of 8 + your Wisdom Modifier + your Proficiency Bonus. If the creature fails the save, they gain vulnerability to psychic damage until the beginning of your next turn. If they are resistant to psychic damage, they lose that resistance until the beginning of your next turn instead.

Mindshift

At 6th level, you can align a creature's aura with a series of surgical jabs, affecting their mind with your will. If you hit a creature with an Intelligence score of 4 or higher with two or more unarmed attacks that deal psychic damage on your turn, you can spend either one or three ki points and force them to make a Wisdom saving throw. On a failed save:

  • If you spent 1 ki point, the creature has disadvantage on all Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma saving throws, as well as Constitution saving throws made to maintain concentration on a spell or effect, until the end of your next turn.
  • If you spent 3 ki points, the creature is charmed by you for the next minute as you concentrate (as if on a spell). The charmed creature is incapacitated and unaware of its surroundings, though it can still hear you. If it takes any damage, is targeted by a spell, or another creature is charmed by you in this way, this effect ends. A creature who is affected by this feature cannot be affected by it again for 24 hours.

Occult Intellect

Beginning at 6th level, your time studying forbidden history and lore from your monastery’s collective knowledge grants you an understanding of language and craft. You learn Deep Speech, the forbidden language of outsiders and chaos, and you gain proficiency with one skill or tool of your choice. If you already have proficiency in the chosen skill, you can instead choose to make any check that uses the chosen proficiency with advantage.

You gain an additional skill or tool proficiency (with the ability to roll with advantage an existing proficiency from the list) at 11th and 17th level.

Indomitable Focus

Starting at 11th level, your grip on reality has tightened. You may use your Stillness of Mind feature to end the charmed or frightened condition on any creature you touch, you make any saving throw against those conditions with advantage, and you gain immunity to those conditions provided you have at least half your ki points remaining.

Occult Intellect (Additional)

You gain an additional language and an additional skill or tool proficiency at 11th level. If you already have proficiency in the chosen skill, you can instead choose to roll with advantage any ability check you make that uses the chosen proficiency.

Amanuenical Knowing

Upon reaching 17th level, your mastery of the occult and forbidden has sharpened your skills to a terrifying razor's edge. You gain the following benefits:

  • Attacks modified by your Lorespear Strike are a critical hit on a 19 or 20.
  • You may choose to have a creature charmed by your Mindshift affected as if targeted with modify memory, targeting any memory within the last year and a day. You may use this effect once per long rest.
  • If you end a condition using your Indomitable Focus, the source of that condition must make the same saving throw that caused the condition (DC 8 + your Wisdom modifier + your Proficiency bonus). On a failed save, they suffer the effect as though they were the original target.

Occult Intellect (Additional)

You gain an additional language and an additional skill or tool proficiency at 17th level. If you already have proficiency in the chosen skill, you can instead choose to roll with advantage any ability check you make that uses the chosen proficiency.
