Paladin
Base Class: Paladin

The Oath of the Bladesworn binds a paladin to a specific weapon, entwining their soul with it. They protect this weapon above all else, at some times even at the cost of their own lives. Whether the weapon is a family or temple heirloom, a sentient being, a magical item, or a masterwork worthy of the greatest heroes of myth, the paladin will treasure it above all other possessions and keep it with them at all times, forming a magical binding connection with the item that allows them to use it greater effect than all others.

TENETS OF THE BLADESWORN

Though the exact words and strictures of the Oath of the Bladesworn vary, paladins of this oath share these tenets.

Fight with Honor. When in combat, fairness above all else is necessary. Your skill with your weapon should win the fight, not some cheap trick.

Respect. As you revere and respect your weapon, you should do the same for those that you meet, whether they are your ally or adversary.

Know When to Fight. Do not resort to violence in all situations. Always be prepared to fight, but never hope for it, and rarely incite it.

Protect What is Close to You. Just as you protect your weapon, protect your friends, family, and all else that matters to you.

Channel Divinity

When you take this oath at 3rd level, you gain the following Channel Divinity option.

Harness Steelsoul. As an action, you can harness the power of the bond between your soul and your weapon's. For 1 minute, or until you fall unconscious, die, or dismiss this ability (no action required), you cannot be separated from your Soulweapon. If a turn ends with your Soulweapon somewhere other than in your hands, it teleports to your hands. Additionally, you get a +1 to your attack and damage rolls with your Soulweapon.

Oath Spells

You gain oath spells at the paladin levels listed.

Oath of the Bladesworn Spells

Soulweapon

At 3rd level, you have a bond to a particular weapon that is so powerful that you form a magical connection, binding your soul to the Steelsoul of the weapon. To bond to a weapon, the weapon must be a melee weapon that you are proficient with, and you can only bond with one weapon at a time. If you wish to bond with another weapon, it takes a day to break your bond with your existing weapon. Bonding with a weapon takes an hour, and at the end you gain the following benefits as long as you are in possession of your Soulweapon.

  • Your weapon counts as magical if it doesn't already.
  • You get a +1 to attack and damage rolls made while using the weapon. This benefit increases to +2 at 7th level and to +3 at 15th level and is ignored if the weapon is a magical weapon that already gets a bonus that is equal to or higher than this one (i.e. a +2 longsword would not get an additional +1 at 3rd level or +2 at 7th level, though the +2 bonus would be replaced with the +3 bonus at 15th level).
  • As long as you are on the same plane of existence as your Soulweapon, you can use a bonus action to summon it, causing it to teleport into your hand.
  • You can use your Soulweapon as the spellcasting focus for paladin spells you cast.

Aura of the Steelsoul

Starting at 7th level, you and friendly creatures within 10 feet of you add their proficiency bonus to damage rolls for melee weapon attacks as long as you are holding your Soulweapon.

At 18th level, the range of this aura increases to 30 feet.

Soulbound

Beginning at 15th level, whenever you bring a creature that attacked you with the last minute to 0 hit points with your Soulweapon, you gain temporary hit points equal to the amount of damage you dealt.

Champion of the Steelsoul

At 20th level, as an action, you can harness the Steelsoul to devastating effect. For 1 minute, you emanate a pulsing aurora around you and your skin gains a metallic, steel-like shine.

Whenever you take the Attack action on your turn, you can attack two additional times.

Add your Charisma modifier (minimum +1) to your AC and to the first damage roll you make with your Soulweapon each turn.

Once you use this feature, you can’t use it again until you finish a long rest.
