Base Class: Wizard
Unwilling to focus on any specific school of magic, or even exclusively on the magic of their class, Arcanists' prize knowledge and flexibility above all other things. They attempt to master as many different disciplines as possible in order to satiate their innate curiosity. Some Arcanists' hope to share their fascinating discoveries with the world, while others seek to accrue knowledge for their own satisfaction, collecting arcane secrets like a dragon hoards treasures.
The Order of the Arcanists teaches prospective wizards on how to navigate dangerous terrain & survive in hostile environments, including extraplanar landscapes. Utilizing the natural tact needed to unraveling mysteries of the magical weave and the creatures within when they venture into the unknown.
Spellwarping
A core feature of the Order of the Arcanists is the spell warping ability. Each wizard within this tradition, performs their own version of said feature. Some wizards use magical instruments to focus and bend the energy, while others use runic tattoos on their body to perform the advance maneuvers. When choosing this Arcane tradition, [you get to choose your personal arcane focus i.e., musical instrument, tattoo/s, lucky charm, or another random small object.] How would you flavor your spell warping ability?
Spontaneous Education Savant
2nd-level Order of the Arcanists' Feature
Beginning when you select this school at 2nd level, you can quickly analyze and reverse engineer magical effects. You do so either as a reaction when a creature you can see within 60 feet of you casts a spell, or as an action when you investigate an ongoing magical effect within 10 feet of you. Make an Intelligence check with a DC equal to 10 + the level of the spell. You identify the spell on a success, and if it's a wizard spell you can make note of its formula. As long as you have these notes, you can copy the spell into your spellbook. The gold and time you must spend to copy an Spell Formula into your spellbook is halved.
Spell Warp Techniques
2nd-level Order of the Arcanists feature
Using the advanced Spell Warp Arcane focus, you are able to manipulate the arcane energy to bend the spell to your wims. Each Arcanists uses their own Arcane focus to perform these techniques. Some use special crystals from the astral realm, some use a custom arcane focus, some even use tattoo's on their body.
This skill is represented by Spell Warp Techniques. You have a number of uses equal to your proficiency bonus + Intelligence modifier and You regain all uses when you finish a long rest. They fuel various arcane powers you have, which are detailed below. Each Spell Warp Technique can only be performed once per action.
Spell Warp: Ray Strike
2nd-level Order of the Arcanists feature
You can alter the form of certain spells as you cast them, turning into a powerful ray.
When you cast a damaging spell with a duration of instantaneous, you may change the spell into a ranged spell attack against single target with a range of 60 feet. All other effects of the spell remain unchanged, but you must now make a ranged spell attack to hit the targeted creature.
You expend one use of your Spell warp only if the roll succeeds. You expend the spell slot either way.
Spell Warp: Split Cast
6th-level Order of the Arcanists Feature
Your acquisition of Magical Formulas during your adventures and your many experiments with the magical weave as granted you to alter the effect of spells.
When you cast a spell of 2nd level or higher with the ability to be upcasted, you can spend a bonus action and split the spell in half and cast the spell twice at a reduced level. Divide the spell slot expended in half (rounded up) and you cast both spells at the reduced level. The spell must be able to be casted at the reduced level and at the original spell slot level.
The spells are casted simultaneously and any effect that would apply to one would apply to another. Such as, if a creature would cast counterspell against your spell, if they succeed, both spells would fail. The spells casted with this feature is considered to be casted at the original spell slot expended for the purpose for any features or spells. If the spell requires concentration, you only have to concentrate on one spell at a time for both spells. If the spell has any actions or bonus actions as part of the spell, both spells are affected when you perform them.
You expend one use of your Spell warp when you perform this feature. Even if successfully countered by counter spell for example.
Spell Warp: Arcane Hijack
10th-level Order of the Arcanists feature
Your experience with bending and shaping magic has given you ways to defend yourself against certain types of it.
When you are targeted by a spell or a spell is casted at a targeted space that includes you, you can use your reaction to make an ability check using your Intelligence modifier. The DC of this check equals 10 + the spell's level. If you succeed, you take control of the spell and can redirect the spell to another target (other than the caster) or another targeted space, using the spell slot level, spell save DC, attack bonus, and spellcasting ability of the caster.
You expend one use of your Spellwarp only if the roll succeeds.
Spellwarp: Spacial Warp
14th-level Order of the Arcanists Feature
When you cast a area of effect spell with a spell slot, you can temporarily replace its range and radius with another spell that appears in your spellbook, which magically alters the spell’s formula for this casting only. The latter spell must be of the same level as the spell slot you expend. You expend one use of your Spellwarp when you perform this feature.
Empowered Spell Warp
14th-level Order of the Arcanists feature
You have become a master in warping spells. Whenever you perform a Spell Warp Technique, you can spend an additional uses to gain additional benefits depending on which technique performed:
- Ray Strike. When you perform the Ray Strike, you can expend an additional use and you can add your Intelligence modifier to the damage it deals on a hit and this Ray Strike spell attack score a critical hit on a roll of 19 or 20. You expend both uses of your Spell Warp only if the roll succeeds.
- Split Cast. When you perform the Split spellwarp, you can choose to expend an additional use of the Spell Warp Technique and split the spell in thirds following the same requirements as the feature and you can cast the spell three times instead of twice. Divide the spell slot expended in thirds(rounded up) and you cast the spells at the reduced level.
- Arcane Hijack. If you fail this ability check, you can expend the additional use and reroll the d20, and you must use the new roll, potentially turning the failure into a success. You expend both uses of your Spell Warp only if the roll succeeds.
- Spacial Warp. You can choose from a list of spells with a level equal to or below the spell slot used with this feature.
