Sorcerer
Base Class: Sorcerer

Magic flows within all sorcerers, but for you in particular, it lives in your blood. Feared in many corners of all realms, Blood Magic is not something one practices lightly, as each spell cast draws from the liquid flowing within a Sorcerer's veins. Through this forbidden art they gain much power, but at a dear price: Each spell they cast using their blasphemous energies brings them closer to the brink of death.

Forbidden Focus

When you choose this origin at 1st level, Blood Magic sorcerers gain the ability to use their own blood as an arcane focus. As long as a sorcerer has a way to draw blood from themselves (a small knife, their teeth, a trick ring), they can cast spells without material components (that do not have a gold cost) or an Arcane Focus. The sorcerer can also use a slashing or piercing weapon they are proficient with as an arcane focus for this skill.

Cantrips cast using Forbidden Focus deal 1 hp of damage to the caster, and higher level spells deal 1d4 damage per level of the spell to the caster. Spells cast in this fashion add the caster's Charisma Modifier to their damage, where applicable.

Damage  inflicted by Forbidden Focus cannot be healed through magical means, and must be recovered by using hit die on a short or long rest.

Forbidden Power

Starting at the 1st level, you can use your blood to empower your sorcerers abilities. Using a bonus action, and as long as a sorcerer has their hands free and a sharp object, a Sorcerer may inflict 1d8 damage to themselves to regain a Sorcery point. You may roll multiple d8s to regain multiple sorcery points, but you may only regain a number of sorcery points equal to half your Sorcerer's class levels rounded up per long rest.

Damage inflicted by Forbidden Power can only be healed by using hit die during a long or short rest, not by magical means.

Inured to Pain

Long practice and familiarity with pain allows experience Blood Magic users endure longer in combat. Starting at 6th level, a Sorcerer may subtract their Constitution bonus from damage inflicted by Forbidden Focus or Forbidden Power.

Blood of Others

Those who delve deep into Blood Magic can use the horrors they inflict to restore themselves. Starting at 14th Level, a Sorcerer may heal themselves for half the damage dealt by a spell cast with Forbidden Focus. The spell must target a single creature and this feature may be used only once per Long Rest. This feature can restore damage dealt by Forbidden Focus and Forbidden Power.

Gruesome Vitality

All the blood you've paid for power has accrued interest. When reduced below 0 hp but not killed outright, a Sorcerer may spend all remaining Sorcery Points to automatically pass their death saves and regain 1 hp. This feature may only be used once per Long Rest, and the Sorcerer must have at least 1 Sorcery Point left to use this feature.
