College of Exploration

Bards of the College of Exploration know that legends and tales often have a grain of truth to them. They feel driven to search for the mysteries of the world, whether it be forgotten cities, unexplored dungeons, lost cultures, or powerful artifacts.

Bonus Proficiencies

When you join the College of Exploration at 3rd Level you gain proficiency in, Cartographers Tools, one additional Language, and either Thieves' Tools or a Vehicle proficiency of your choice.

Well-Traveled

Also at 3rd Level you have seen things that most people couldn’t dream of and have experience with dangerous, explored, and/or unexpected circumstances. When you encounter these situations you may expend a use of Bardic Inspiration and roll a Bardic Inspiration die. Choose one specialization below. At 10th level you can choose another specialization. At 15th level you gain the 3rd specialization.

  • Dungeon Delver. You spent countless hours exploring dungeons of all kinds. You can expend a use of Bardic Inspiration and add the roll of a Bardic Inspiration die to Perception (Wisdom) and Insight (Intelligence) checks used to locate the entrance or exit to a dungeon or when searching for hidden rooms or passages, and for Investigation (Intelligence) and Perception (Wisdom) checks to detect of any traps that lie within.
  • Drifter. The road is in your blood, and you follow it wherever it leads. Even in towns or cities you're unfamiliar with, you can find your way around with ease. You can expend a use of Bardic Inspiration and add the roll of a Bardic Inspiration die to History (Intelligence) and Wisdom (Survival) checks to recall information about maps and geography, the general layout of terrain, settlements, cultures, and flora/fauna around you.
  • Researcher. Any time not spent on the road is in the library, scriptorium, old churches, or university. You have learned a little about everything and can recall a piece of lore about most legends, magic items, artifacts, and exotic creatures. You can expend a use of Bardic Inspiration and add the roll of a Bardic Inspiration die to a Religion (Wisdom) or Arcana (Intelligence) check to recall information about objects, statues, relics, artifacts, monsters, gods, and the like. In addition, you can cast Detect Magic and Identify as rituals.

Freedom of the Road

At the 6th level, when you cast spells that increase movement speed, or otherwise effect movement and require concentration, you may maintain concentration on that spell while simultaneously maintaining concentration on another spell.

In addition, your experience and quick thinking allow you to move and act quickly. You can take a Bonus Action on each of your turns in Combat. This action can be used only to take the Dash, Disengage, or Hide action.

Explorer’s Luck

At 14th Level when you make a saving throw you can use your reaction to expend one of your uses of Bardic Inspiration, rolling the die and adding the number to that roll. You can choose to use this feature after you make the roll but before the DM determines whether it was a success or fail.
