Base Class: Bard
Fools and desperate alike chase wealth and fortune all around the world. Hard work doesn’t always pay off, and few can withstand the siren’s call of a good gamble, for too great is the reward. As a bard of the College of Fortune, you seek those opportunities, in search for gold, infamy, or the thrill of putting everything on the line in one single moment. You know how to play the game, and how to put the odds in your favor.
This subclass is based on luck and the flip of a coin, in order to simulate the feeling of gambling. The coin itself is not a tool that was necessarily meant for the gaming table, but it should be easy to integrate nonetheless. If for whatever reason you don't have a coin at hand or fear that flipping a coin at a table full of people may cause trouble, I suggest simply rolling a single die instead, and guessing Even or Odd instead of Heads or Tails. As always, feedback is greatly appreciated!
Bonus Proficiencies
Starting when you choose this subclass at 3rd level, you gain proficiency with one type of gaming set. You also gain proficiency in the Deception skill if you don’t already have it.
Lucky Coin
Also starting at 3rd level, you gain a lucky coin. Choose a coin in your possession. You bond this coin to your magical essence over the course of an hour long ritual which can be done during a short or long rest to create a lucky coin. You can use this coin as a spellcasting focus for your bard spells. Should you ever lose your lucky coin or expend it as currency, the magic bonding it to you fades, and you can create a new coin by repeating the ritual with another coin in your possession.
Whenever you roll for an attack roll or a skill check while in possession of your lucky coin, you may choose to flip the coin. Before you do, guess Heads or Tails. If you guessed correctly, roll a d4, and add the result of the roll to the result of your attack roll or skill check. You can use this feature after you rolled for the attack or check, but before you know its result. At 10 level, the dice you roll increases to a d6.
You can use this feature a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, and you regain all uses when you finish a long rest. Whenever you choose to flip your coin, you expend a use of this feature regardless of whether or not you guessed correctly.
Glimpse of Fortune
Starting at 3rd level, you can borrow some of your outstanding luck to those in need. When an ally rolls a Bardic Inspiration Die granted by you, it can roll a second die of the same size and choose the result of which roll to add to the check. If both rolls resulted in the same number, the ally that rolled the dice gains a bonus to their roll equal to your Charisma modifier, in addition to the bonus gained from the Bardic Inspiration feature.
Warding Coin
Starting at 6th level, your luck can brush off even the strongest of spells. When you fail a saving throw against a spell or magical ability, you can choose to flip your lucky coin as a reaction. Before you do, guess Heads or Tails. If you guessed correctly, you succeed on the triggering saving throw instead.
The first time you guess correctly, you expend a use of this feature. You can use this feature once per short or long rest. If you have no uses remaining, you can instead expend one of your Bardic Inspiration die in order to use this feature again until you guess correctly once more.
Jackpot
Starting at 14th level, your lucky streaks know no bounds. Whenever you guess correctly on a coin flip triggered by your Lucky Coin or Warding Coin feature, you can treat the result of your next skill check, attack roll or saving throw within the next minute as a 20.
