Base Class: Barbarian
First homebrew and I like the ambiguity of what is force and always think of force damage being something akin to using a portion of your life force or soul. Kind of inspired from the Ki idea of monks using their inner power and the path of the storm herald. Let me know your thoughts.
Barbarian Archetype: Path of Soul Rage
Whether it was through self-exploration or through the touch of an otherworldly being you have gained the ability to use the very essence of yourself for combat. Monks use a similar tactic where they pull a small portion out to use to enhance themselves. Not you though. You channel the full might of your very being into it. Your rage will not settle for some small portion. It is an all or nothing fight. Let the enemies feel not just the weight of your weapons but the very weight of your soul as you bring it to the battlefield.
DC = Constitution modifier+ proficiency.
Soul Burst
At the start of Rage create a 10ft aura that is an extension of the characters soul. Dex Save upon entering it for the first time and at the end of your turn for all enemies. Dex save is against spell casting DC. Success no damage. Failure take 1d6 force damage. Damage increases at 6 level (2d6), 10 level (3d6) and 14 level (4d6). Can be used while raging but does not count towards maintaining rage requirements.
Also granted at level 3 you are granted Soul Commune.Through extension of your soul you have learned how to communicate with willing creatures and people to convey pictures and feelings of certain things to exchange information between you and one other. This can only be cast as a ritual and not while in rage state.
True Self Sight
With enough practice you have learned to differentiate the feelings in peoples and creatures souls. So long as you have seen what the feelings are beforehand for 1 minute you have advantage on Insight, Intimidation, Animal Handling and Diplomacy rolls provided that you saw what they were feeling beforehand.
In combat you are able to see souls of the enemies. Enemies are at a disadvantage to use stealth unless it is behind full cover. And though you can be technically blind to the physical world you cannot be blinded to seeing souls negating any disadvantage from fighting while blind. Though you can only move up to half your move speed without penalty while blind.
Soul Infusion
While Rage is active you have become in tuned with your soul’s power and can now make your normal damage types (Slashing, Piercing and Bludgeoning) count as Force damage for the purposes of damage resistance mitigation.
Also at level 10 you are granted Commune with Nature as stated in the path of the totem warrior ritual cast except not tied down to just the totem spirit of the barbarian. You can use this feature to speak with the spirits of the wild whose souls are still wondering this plain of existence.
Epitome of the Behemoth
When raging you can release your full strength.
- The range of your Soul Burst becomes 30ft.
- Immune to Force Damage. Allies within the Soul Burst gain resistance to Force damage.
- While raging you ignore resistance to Force damage and treat immunity to Force damage as resistance instead.
