Paladin
Base Class: Paladin

This Oath empowers a Paladin to address the Social pillar in ways most Paladins can't while augmenting some abilities in the Combat pillar. The Oath allows Paladins to commune directly with the Aspect of Memories, which houses the collected memories of those who have died on Aryssa. Some who take the Oath remain dedicated to this cause of remembrance over the divine conflict, choosing to remain separate from the other orders. Taking up the Oath of Memories usually requires regimented training in the Ascent of Memories, but some adventurers hear the call without formal training. Paladins who take this Oath gain insight against specific enemies by seeing their memories and can even speak with the recently deceased.

Play an Oath of Memories Paladin if...

  • You want to play a more scholarly or reserved Paladin.
  • You want to contribute to your party's success through means other than Combat.
  • You want to investigate and put the souls of the dead to rest.
  • You imagine your Paladin as devoted to respecting and honoring all life.

Building an Oath of Memories Paladin: Like all Paladins, focus on Strength or Dexterity first based on your weapon of choice, along with your Charisma and Constitution. Most of your abilities do not key off of a specific stat, so you can focus on these primary stats, however, many who take the Oath of Memories may focus on Intelligence or Wisdom as well.

Channel Divinity

  • Memoirs of the Dead: You may ask up to three yes or no questions to a creature that has died within the last 24 hours so long as you have any part of the body. The creature does not need to be honest, but you may use either your Wisdom or Charisma modifier for your Insight check against the creature's Deception (Charisma) check. You must spend a minute communing with the deceased before you can ask your questions.
  • Recall Strike: When you would miss a creature with a Melee Attack you have previously hit with a Melee Attack, you may use your Reaction to re-roll your Attack with Advantage. If you hit with this attack, your damage roll has Advantage.

Dirge Aura

You are surrounded by an Aura that extends 10 feet around you. All hostile creatures within this Aura gain Disadvantage on Charisma Saving Throws against effects you control and Charisma Skill Checks. In addition, Undead cannot be raised within your Aura, and a creature killed within your Aura cannot be raised as an Undead for days equal to your Paladin level.

When you reach 18th Level, the range on this Aura is increased by 10 feet.

Living Memory

Once per Long Rest, when you roll Initiative, you may commune with the Aspect of Memories to see into your enemy's memories. The target must be capable of forming memories or undead; if you attempt to use this ability on a creature that does not fit those characters, you do not use this ability. You may only attempt to choose one target per Initiative. Once you have successfully chosen a target, you may learn one of the following:

  • You may learn any Resistances, Immunities, and Weaknesses the creature has.
  • You may learn any spells the creature has prepared.
  • You may learn of any active spells or spell-like effects active on the creature.
  • You can learn how many allies the creature is aware of.

In addition, you have Advantage on the first Attack you make on that creature in the next minute.

Divine Death

After a Long Rest, you commune with the Aspect of Memories and gain insight into a fatal moment for a friendly creature chosen during the Long rest (you only need to know the creature's name, or at least, be able to identify the creature during your Long Rest.) Once before you take a Long Rest, you may cast Revivify on that target.
