Base Class: Monk

Through meditation and study, monks who follow the Way of the Focused Mind have dedicated their lives to expanding their consciousness beyond the material plane.  Through intense focus, they are able to change their mental state to adapt in a variety of situations, sometimes pushing beyond their own physical limits through sheer willpower.

Disciplined Mind

Monks following the path of the Focused Mind have undergone physical discipline to block out distractions through mental willpower.  At 3rd level, when making a check to maintain concentration on a spell or Mindset after taking damage, you can choose to make a Constitution or Wisdom check to maintain concentration.

Life of Study

The path of the Way of the Focused Mind is deeply involved in study.  Monks on this path read a little bit of any knowledge they can find, but often have one favorite subject.  At 3rd level, you gain proficiency in one of the following skills: Arcana, History, Medicine, Nature, or Religion. 

Focused Mindset

You are able to focus your mind upon a single task, sometimes breaking through your typical limits. At third level, you can spend 1 ki point and can enter a Mindset as a bonus action.

When you enter into a Mindset you can choose from one of the following states of focus:

Spark of the Retributive Flame
You focus your fury on destroying your enemies.  Until the Mindset ends,  when you make an attack with an unarmed strike or monk weapon, you add +2 to the damage roll of one attack that round. At 9th level, this damage increases to +3.  At 16th level, this damage increases to +4.

At 6th level, you can intensify your focus like the flames of the Plane of fire. When you enter this Mindset, or during it as a bonus action, you may spend 1 ki point to add 1d6 fire damage to one attack per round made with a monk weapon or unarmed strike until the Mindset ends.

At 11th level, you have felt the justice of the celestial planes, and use it's cleansing flame to lay waste to a single foe.  When you enter this Mindset, or during it as a bonus action, you may spend 1 ki point to select one creature as your target.  Until the Mindset ends, any additional damage granted by this Mindset applies to all of your attacks in a round. You can use your bonus action on your turn to change the target of your focus. You maintain this ability until the focus ends.  Once you spend a ki point to use this ability, you must complete a long rest before you are able to do so again. At 17th level, you no longer require a long rest to use this ability again.

Alacrity of Ethereal Wind
You set yourself to be springy, light on your feet.  Until the Mindset ends, you gain advantage on Dexterity saving throws and ability checks, and all of your travel speeds are increased by +10 ft.  This increase is in addition to the bonus that you gain from the Unarmored Movement class feature.

At 6th level, you let your mind float as you access the elemental plane of air and lighten your body.  When you enter this Mindset, or during it as a bonus action, you can spend 1 ki point to fly. Your fly speed is equal to your walking speed. You maintain this ability until the Mindset ends.

At 11th level, you have walked the borders of the ethereal.  When you enter this Mindset, or during it as a bonus action, you can spend 1 ki point to enter the ethereal plane as if under the effects of the spell etherealness. You maintain this ability until the Mindset ends.  Once you spend a ki point to use this ability, you must complete a long rest before you are able to do so again. At 17th level, you no longer require a long rest to use this ability again.

Expert of Ordered Darkness
You unlock deep memories of knowledge you previously may have glanced at.  You gain proficiency in a skill or tool of your choice, or you can add your proficiency bonus to a skill or tool that you are already have proficiency in.  These proficiencies last until the focus ends.

At 6th level, your mind's eye has beheld the Shadowfell, and now nothing can escape your gaze. When you enter this Mindset, or during it as a bonus action, you can spend 1 ki point to gain truesight which lasts until your focus ends.

At 11th level, the perfection of the lawful planes creates a bastion of order in your mind, allowing you to dispel falsehood.   When you enter this Mindset, or during it as a bonus action, you can spend 1 ki point to dispel illusions and invisibility. As an action on your turn, you can choose one creature, object, or magical effect within reach of your unarmed attack.  If there is an Illusion spell effecting the target, make a Wisdom check against  a DC equal to 10 + the spell’s level. On a successful check, the spell ends.  You maintain this ability until your Mindset ends. Once you spend a ki point to use this ability, you must complete a long rest before you are able to do so again. At 17th level, you no longer require a long rest to use this ability again.

Insensate as Infernal Stone
You inure yourself to harm.  You gain resistance to bludgeoning, piercing, and slashing damage until the Mindset ends.

At 6th level, you feel the strength of the elemental plane of earth in your skin.  When you enter this Mindset, or during it as a bonus action, you may spend 1 ki point to gain immunity to nonmagical bludgeoning, piercing or slashing damage until the Mindset ends.

At 11th level, you have seen the terrible, twisted forms that rise from the depths of the infernal planes. When you enter this Mindset, or during it as a bonus action, you may spend 1 ki point to gain resistance to acid, cold, fire, lightning, and poison damage until the Mindset ends.  Once you spend a ki point to use this ability, you must complete a long rest before you are able to do so again. At 17th level, you no longer require a long rest to use this ability again.

Vision of Beguiling Chaos
You focus your attention on distant foes.  You gain a new attack option that you can use with the Attack action until the Mindset ends. This special attack is a ranged spell attack with a range of 60 feet. You are proficient with it, and you add your Wisdom modifier to its attack and damage rolls. It deals psychic damage equal to your martial arts die.

At 6th level, the veils of the Feywild conceal you from your foes. When you enter this Mindset, or during it as a bonus action, you can spend 1 ki point to blur your form to those immediately around you, which causes disadvantage on melee attacks until the Mindset ends.

At 11th level, you have maintained calm through the tumult of the planes of Chaos, and are now able to step through temporary folds made by it.  When you enter this Mindset, or during it as a bonus action, you can spend 1 ki point to gain the ability to teleport up to 30 feet with your movement or by using the Dash action.  This ability lasts until the focus ends. Once you spend a ki point to use this ability, you must complete a long rest before you are able to do so again. At 17th level, you no longer require a long rest to use this ability again.

Obstinate Astral Tide
You manipulate the area around you with your psychic will.  Select an area equal to 5ft multiplied by your Wisdom modifier plus your proficiency bonus.  You can cause the ground in this area to ripple, making it difficult terrain.  The area you select must be a contiguous shape, with an origin point within range of your unarmed strike.  You can use your reaction to make an unarmed strike attack against any creature that moves more than 5ft in the area you have designated.  A creature hit by this attack is reduced to 0 hit points.

At 6th level, the push and pull of the Plane of Water has taught you balance.  When you enter this Mindset, or during it as a bonus action, you may spend 1 ki point to gain the following ability until the Mindset ends: As an action, you can designate one creature to be pushed, pulled or kept in place as they are buffeted by tidal psychic forces.  The creature must make a Strength saving throw, and if they fail you may either push or pull the target 15 ft. or reduce the target's speed to 0 ft. until the start of your next turn.

At 11th level, the majesty of the Astral sea has set your heart to soaring.  When you enter this Mindset, or during it as a bonus action, you may spend 1 ki point to increase the amount of square you affect with this Mindset to 10ftmultiplied by your Wisdom score plus your proficiency bonus. You are able to also affect areas not on the ground with the shape you select.  This additional space is maintained until the end of the Mindset.  Once you spend a ki point to use this ability, you must complete a long rest before you are able to do so again. At 17th level, you no longer require a long rest to use this ability again.

Your Mindset lasts for 1 minute, but you can spend 1 ki point as a bonus action to extend the duration of the Mindset by 1 minute.  You can also change your Mindset by spending 1 ki point as a bonus action. 

Mindsets require concentration as if they were a magic effect. You are not able to maintain concentration on another magical effect, your Mindset ends if you fail a Constitution check, or if you are incapacitated or killed. You can also end your Mindset on your turn as a bonus action.

Knowledge of the Elemental Spheres

At 6th level, your consciousness has expanded to begin to touch the boarders of the elemental planes, the feywild and shadowfell.  When you enter a Mindset, you can expend additional ki points to use additional effects for each Mindset.  These effects are noted in the Focused Mindset class feature.

Additionally, when you make a check to maintain concentration on a Mindset, you may roll with advantage. 

Eyes to the Astral Sea

At 11th level, your visions have taken you to the farthest reaches of the astral plane, and you now have balanced within you planes of law, chaos, good, evil, and the transitory planes.  These additional Mindset abilities are listed within the Focused Mindset class feature.

Additionally, once per long rest you can choose to succeed in one concentration check to maintain a Mindset.

Mind at the Edge of the Far Realms

You have stepped to the precipice of the Far Realms and became numb to the madness.  Within it's alien senses you have realized the fragility of reality.  At 17th level, you gain resistance to psychic damage, and you may maintain concentration on up to two Mindsets at a time, however you must spend 1 ki point to maintain this additional Mindset at the end of each round.

Additionally, you no longer need to make concentration checks to maintain a Mindset.
