Base Class: Wizard
Also known as The Astral School of magic, the Astral Tradition is heavily detached from the other schools and traditions. Astral practitioners, called Arcanites, understands that the greatest fountains of magical energy come from other stars and worlds that dance around the cosmos. They believe that there exists in the Prime Material Plane a single point, whether it be a location or a place in time, that is the source of all magical energies o the universe, waiting to be discovered. They refer to this point as "Origin", and they study the stars to find hidden knowledge and power that might aid in their search for Origin.
Arcanites use patterns in the stars to interpret Astral spells, which can then be scribed into the Wizard's spellbook. Arcanites are incredibly knowledgeable about the functions of magical energies, and use this to improve their spellcasting ability.
Arcane Astronomer
Starting at 2nd Level, the Astral Arcanite is able to read the stars to gain knowledge of various Astral spells. The Astral Arcanite may spend 1 week of working 8 hours a day per spell level to study patterns in the stars. They may only do this for a spell level that is available through their spell slots. Once completed, they may scribe this spell into their spellbook using the normal rules for their class. If the Arcanite loses their spellbook, and has not made copies of the spell elsewhere, they must repeat this process for the spell.
Starlight Recovery
Due to their close understanding of the magical energy found in stars and other planets, Astral Arcanites are able to regain additional spell slots when they take their short rests in areas that give unobstructed views of the stars. The amount of spell slots increases depending on the Arcanite's Wizard level. They restore 1 additional spell slot starting at level two, 2 spell slots at level seven, 3 spell slots at level thirteen, and 4 additional spell slots at level seventeen.
Astral Enchanter
Starting at 6th level, due to your study of the stars and Origin, the manipulation of magical energies becomes second nature to you. You gain Expertise in Arcana skill checks, adding double your proficiency bonus to all Arcana checks. In addition, you gain Advantage when attempting to Counterspell or cast Dispel Magic.
Astral Scribe
Starting at 10th level, you may take 2 Level 1 Astral spells from your Wizard's Spellbook. These are now Cantrip spells, their cast time is now a Quick Action, and they do not count towards your Cantrips Known. You may replace these spells with other Level 1 Astral spells in your Wizard's Spellbook when you level up.
Additionally, the gold and time you must spend to copy an Astral spell into your spellbook is halved.
Origin Mastery
Your constant study of the stars has granted you greater understanding of Astral spellcrafting. Pick one of the Astral spells in your Wizard's Spellbook. You may spend 1 Long Rest studying the stars to discover hidden secrets related to that spell. Until you perform this action again, that spell can be cast without using a spell slot once per Long Rest.
In addition, enemies that attempt to Counterspell or cast Dispel Magic (or any similar spells) upon any Astral spells you cast do so at Disadvantage.
Starting at 14th Level, the Astral Arcanite is hit with a wave of inspiration. By spending full month deciphering the patterns of the stars in the night sky, they are able to translate the name of Origin; Farfalos, the Farthest Star. From this point onwards, the Astral Arcanite may spend an increasing amount of time studying Farfalos. After a full year of study, in which at least 2 nights of each week is spent studying the stars, the Astral Arcanite is able to unlock additional secrets regarding Farfalos. The Astral Arcanite then gains a permanent +1 to their Proficiency Bonus when casting Astral spells, making Arcana Checks, and performing a Counterspell or casting Dispel Magic.
This year must be spent in the Prime Material Plane, and it must be a full undisturbed solar cycle of the planet the Astral Arcanist first gained this feature. Disturbing the amount of time it takes for Farfalos' energy to reach the planet across the phases of its rotation disturbs the nature of this study, resulting in failure for that year.
The Astral Arcanist is able to repeat this processes for an unlimited amount of times, but each time this study is performed, the amount of time it takes increases by one full year. That means it will take two additional years for the second bonus and three full years for the bonus after that, meaning they must study Farfalos for a total of 6 full years before they gain their third bonus.
