Artificer
Base Class: Artificer

(update 1.1: corrected some inconsistent wording in shards listed in arcane staining feature, now all, abilities with a duration last until the end of the vitrailist's next turn. gave a buff to the fire shard ability while clarifying the bonus as extra damage, gave a buff to the necrotic shard ability and clarified its wording)

A Vitrailist is an artificer who produces a unique form of stained glass, rather than using dyes to bring colour to their work, they use the arcane building blocks of the universe. Through the use of an arcane focus called a Stained Effigy, they translate magic into a coloured glass that they can then use to manipulate the world around them

Tool Proficiency

When you adopt this specialization at 3rd level, you gain proficiency with Glassblower's Tools. If you already have this proficiency, you gain proficiency with one other type of artisan’s tools of your choice.

Vitrailist Spells

Starting at 3rd level, you always have certain spells prepared after you reach particular levels in this class, as shown in the Alchemist Spells table. These spells count as artificer spells for you, but they don’t count against the number of artificer spells you prepare.

Arcane Staining

When you choose this class at the 3rd level, you create a Stained Effigy. An Effigy is a magical object appearing as a mirrored glass mosaic encased in a box, around a foot in height, and weighing 5lbs. You determine the pictographs  appearance and the design of its casing, your choice has no effect on its game effects

You may use your Stained Effigy as a spellcasting focus for casting your artificer spells.

While you are holding your stained effigy if you are hit by a spell or magical effect that deals damage to you, you can use your reaction to halve the attack’s damage against you. If you do this, you create a stained shard with a colour corresponding to the spell’s damage type. This shard then hovers around your person.

You may use a bonus action to expend the shard and gain a benefit corresponding to the color of the shard expended. You may only expend one shard during this bonus action.

You can only use this reaction if you are not capped on shards and if you are hit by a damage type that you can convert into a shard. You may have 1 active shard at a time and the number of shards you can have active increases by 1 when you reach 5th, and again at 9th and 15th levels in this class

Crown Glass

By the 15th level, the Vitrailists' understanding of composition and craft has led them to mastery of bending the arcane into works of art.

  • When you use the reaction of your Arcane Staining feature, you now gain resistance to the triggering damage type. This lasts until your next short or long rest, or until you use Arcane Staining again.
  • You can cast prismatic spray without expending a spell slot, without preparing the spell, and without material components, provided you use your Stained Effigy as the spellcasting focus. Once you cast this spell with this feature, you can’t cast that spell with it again until you finish a long rest.
