Base Class: Paladin
Oath of the Craft:
An ancient order of Paladins that date back to the beginning of medicine and hygiene, the servants of the Oath of the Craft, or Apothecaries, are dedicated to serving the hippocratic dogma that every doctor lives by. Apothecaries are expected to head into places of death, decay, and pestilence with a compassionate smile, hiding any strife that they may have as they are forced to watch those they cannot save die, and pray that they can one day learn how to prevent more from meeting a similar fate.
Tenets of The Craft
The Tenets of the Oath of The Craft forces the Paladin who takes up this oath to protect the masses from toxin, disease, and injury, and to hold themselves responsible when they abuse their power.
Bias is Sin: ALL creatures are deserving of a cure, and denying anything of that cure is the worst thing one can do.
Servant of the Masses: Always prioritize the wellbeing of the many, no matter the cost. Imagine if you were in their place.
You are not a God: A life is a valuable thing, and must only be taken away when there are no more known options left. The creation of life via unnatural means as well as the active malicious spread of disease are terrible sins and should be avoided at all costs. As such, the school of Necromancy is the greatest of sins to those who take up this oath.
The Balance: Waste not your resources seeking to cure the incurable, but remember that what may seem incurable at a glance may be easily treated with a deeper look.
Atone for Ignorance: Most importantly, when you learn of something that could have saved people already lost, hold that information close, and use it to cure future victims in honor of the fallen.
Oath Spells
Level 3: Healing Word, Detect Poison and Disease, Burning Hands
Level 5: Healing Spirit, Lesser Restoration
Level 9: Life Transference, Mass Healing Word
Level 13: Death Ward, Wall of Fire
Level 17: Greater Restoration, Mass Cure Wounds, Flame Strike
Channel Divinity: Savior of the Lepers
The inspiration, willpower, and vigor needed in order to purge pestilence from the poor bodies of the masses wells up inside you. For the next minute, you regain 3 points to your Lay on Hands pool once every round or 6 seconds, any healing spells cast on you also adds a number of points equal to double the slot used. Should 10 unique diseased creatures be cured with Lay on Hands, your soul roars and this effect continues for an extra minute.
Channel Divinity: Savior of the Dying
The sight of death and destruction sickens you to the point in which you must do something about it. You may use an action to use this ability, in which then ALL dying creatures within 60 feet of you will become stabilized as if they were under the effects of the Spare the Dying cantrip. This effect lasts for 1 hour, and any creatures not tended to will begin dying again as if the spell hadn’t been cast on them
Preparatory Measures
Starting at Level 3, during a Long rest, you may touch a number of creatures equal to your spellcasting modifier. Until your next long rest you can cast a Single Target healing or restoration spell on them once for free. You can also heal up to 5 hitpoints for free via Lay on Hands (Any spell that regains hitpoints or removes a debuff is considered a restoration spell). Any spell or ability that you would use using this ability that specifies that the creature must be willing ignores that aspect of the spell and it works regardless.
Aura of Hygiene
You emit an aura that gives ALL creatures within 10 feet of you share your divine health class feature. Whenever you use any kind of healing ability, all allied creatures regain 1 hitpoint as long as they are within the aura. If a creature within the aura already has a disease, you know exactly what the disease is, how contagious it is, and if it’s cure is known by you (If you don’t know the cure, the magic that creates this aura will try it’s best to suggest the best way to deal with it). Lay on Hands can be used on a bonus action as well*
At 18th lvl, this aura extends to 30 ft.
*it's assumed that any creature you would use Lay on Hands on would already be within the aura, but in case you have an ability that allows you to use a ranged Lay on Hands, the creature must be within the aura
Master of Disease and Hygiene
Due to your deep well of knowledge involving viruses, plagues, and other diseases, you can also control the spread of it, for better or for worse. Whenever you encounter someone with a disease, you can decide to seal the disease within your own body, curing that creature and making them immune to that disease. you can do this up to a number of times equal to your Charisma and Constitution Modifier added together, to a minimum of 4, without any detrimental effects. Should you manage to get over this number, you lose the benefits of Divine Health and any disease within you affects you as if you never had Divine Health. Luckily, you cannot unwillingly spread any disease to anything else.
WARNING: THIS ABILITY GOES VERY MUCH AGAINST YOUR OATH, AND MAY LEAD TO YOU BEING DECLARED AN OATHBREAKER SHOULD IT BE DISCOVERED YOU HAVE TAKEN ADVANTAGE OF THIS POWER AND WILLINGLY SPREAD DISEASE, REGARDLESS OF THE CONTEXT OR SITUATION. At any time in which you would have the ability to touch a creature, you can use your Lay on Hands to spread the disease to them instead of curing it like usual. Should you use this, you will no longer have that disease sealed inside of you.
Whenever you take a long rest, you can choose to destroy any mundane disease sealed inside of you.
Should the disease be a supernatural one like Vampirism or Lycanthropy, you cannot get rid of it normally, and for every week you have it sealed inside of you, you lose 10 maximum hitpoints. Should you lose all of your hitpoints in this way, not even the Wish spell will bring you back, and only Divine Intervention can bring you back.
Should you die, any diseases sealed inside of you die as well.
The Unsung Hero
You become an Avatar of Hygiene and Medicine, which gives you the following benefits:
- Any creature that you haven’t attacked rolls with disadvantage in order to hit you
- Whenever an ally within 60 ft of you is downed, you can use a reaction to teleport either right next to them or as close as possible and use Lay on Hands to heal up to 10 Hitpoints. The second portion of this ability doesn’t come into effect if you are not able to get close enough to the ally to use Lay on Hands.
You lose these abilities when you deplete your Lay on Hands pool.
