Base Class: Fighter
The Gravedigger has always felt a close connection to the recently departed and as such has spent much time in cemeteries. Their time there has expanded their perception and understanding of life, the afterlife and the time between. They have bound themselves to a vengeful spirit and have taken the burden of completing this sprits unfinished business. To that end, they carry a shovel in order to dig the graves of those that stand in the way of their goal.
Gravedigging
At 3rd level the Gravedigger loses their previously chosen fighting style and gains Great Weapon Fighting. They also receive a shovel, which is treated as a great axe for combat purposes. Additionally at 3rd level the Gravedigger learns to harness the power of the souls of the recently departed. Three times per short rest the gravedigger may use a bonus action to draw out the soul of a recently departed target, creating a soul flame. Additionally, any critical hit automatically creates a soul flame. The gravedigger can only have three active soul flames. Only one soul flame can be drawn from any dead target.
Lastly while the gravedigger has an active soul flame, they may use a bonus action to imbue their shovel with the power of a single soul flame adding 1d4 psychic damage to their melee attack. At level 7 Soul Smite adds temporary HP equal to damage done. Max temporary HP is set at 4. At 15th level damage is increased to 1d8 and a killing blow with Soul Smite now returns the soul flame and heals the gravedigger by 1d4. At level 18 Soul Smite may now use up to 3 flames each flame after the first deals reduced damage; First flame 1d10, second flame 1d8, third flame 1d4.
Spiritual Attunement
At 7th level the gravedigger's bond with their spirit strengthens, allowing them to send the spirit up to 60 feet to scout. Their bond allows them to communicate telepathically. This can be done as a bonus action. The spirit possesses the same skills as the gravedigger and uses their proficiency on save rolls.
Soul Containment
At 10th level the gravedigger learns how to store soul flames for later use. The soul flames can be stored in simple glass containers such as empty potion bottles. The gravedigger can store up to 3 soul flames in this way. They may use a bonus action to release as many stored flames as they like.
Spirit Aide
At 15th level the bond with the spirit increases further. The gravediggers spirit can now interact with the living world giving the gravedigger the ability to use Soul Smite, Store Flame, or Flame Release as free actions. Only one of these actions can be performed per turn, and this can only be done twice per day.
Unburied
At 18th level, if the gravedigger is incapacitated, their spirit may use soul flames to help revive them. Each time the gravedigger is to roll a death saving throw they may first have their spirit consume one soul flame to add one success count. The gravedigger then rolls their saving throw. If the gravedigger uses a soul flame to receive a third success count the gravedigger is healed by 1d4 HP in place of being stabilized.
