Bard
Base Class: Bard

Some Bards sing, some compose sonnets.  Some Bards deftly juggle knives, and some are the memories of kingdoms and ages long gone.  But some Bards have no formal training with blade, pen, or lute.  Some Bards are salt of the earth, rubbing shoulders with commoner and King through the threads that bind worried mind and festive celebration alike: Vice.  These are the bartenders with the right drink at the right time or needed song for one’s woes.  These are kind strangers with a well timed pipe for a weary traveler.  These are welcoming hosts with a pot on boil for early risers or late night schemers.  Welcome, be you alewife or vintner, to the College of Vice.

Tools of the Trade

When you join the College of Vice at 3rd level, you gain proficiency with all tools pertaining to:

  • Brewing and distilling (Brewing Tools)
  • Cooking and baking ( Cook’s utensils )
  • Curing, roasting, and brewing tea or coffee (Herbal Beverage Tools)
  • Curing and preparing herbs for smoking (Tobacconist Tools)

In Vino Veritas

3rd level, when you engage in conversation when sharing or paying for spirits, wines, beers, teas, coffees, food, or tobacco or other smoked goods, you have advantage on all rolls pertaining to getting others to open up to you and to discern the truthfulness of their statements.

Liquid Courage

Also at 3rd level, you learn to inspire through your vices.  You may save Bardic Inspirations up to one half your Charisma modifier rounded up (minimum 1) in flasks of spirits, a cigarette, or the like.  These act exactly like Bardic Inspiration, but are less potent and cannot be used in conjunction with any other Bardic Inspiration someone may currently have.  At 3rd level, the die is 1d4 and the effects last for 5 minutes. The die becomes a d6 at 5th level, a d8 at 10th level, and a d10 at 15th level.

Each stored Bardic Inspiration takes 10 minutes to prepare and carries its use 24 hours before returning to its normal unimbued state.

Magical Mixers

Starting at 6th level, you are able to store spells in your vices as you store your inspiration. You may store spells in any combination of spell levels up to your current proficiency bonus.

For example, if your proficiency bonus is +2, you could then store two 1st level spells or one 2nd level spell.

Half the total spell levels of stored spells (rounded up) in Bardic Inspirations are required for this ritual, and 10 minutes per stored spell to prepare.

For example, if one 1st level spell is saved, it takes one Bardic Inspiration and 10 minutes to save.  If one 2nd level spell and one 4th level spell are saved, it takes three Bardic Inspirations and 30 minutes to prepare.

These stored spells can be used by anyone who succeeds a DC 10 arcana check, though you do not need to perform this check if you use the imbued vice.  Using them is considered the “use item” action, and all use your spell DC and your spell casting modifier to cast even if they are not used by you.

Each stored spell carries its use 24 hours before returning to its normal unimbued state.

Rousing Cheers

At 14th level, once per long rest you can raise a cheer and provide 1d4 Bardic Inspiration to anyone of your choosing within a 10 x number of Bardic Inspiration foot radius, spent up to a maximum of 6. This die can be used in conjunction with any other Bardic Inspiration someone may currently have, and lasts for 10 minutes.
