Monk
Base Class: Monk

Monks of the Way of Shadow follow a tradition that values stealth and subterfuge. These monks might be called ninjas or shadowdancers, and they serve as spies and assassins. Sometimes the members of a ninja monastery are family members, forming a clan sworn to secrecy about their arts and missions. Other monasteries are more like thieves’ guilds, hiring out their services to nobles, rich merchants, or anyone else who can pay their fees. Regardless of their methods, the heads of these monasteries expect the unquestioning obedience of their students. This subclass is a small improvement to the lacking parts of the official class

Shadow Techniques

Starting when you choose this tradition at 3rd level, you can use your ki to amplify the effects of certain spells. As an action, you can spend 2 ki points to cast darkness, darkvision, pass without trace, silence, or shadow blade without providing material components. Additionally, you gain the minor illusion and control shadows cantrip if you don’t already know it.

Shadow Dash

At 6th level, you gain the ability to step from one shadow into another. When you are in dim light or darkness, as a bonus action you can teleport up to 60 feet to an unoccupied space you can see that is also in dim light or darkness. You then have advantage on the first melee attack you make before the end of the turn. When you Shadow Step to a space within 5 feet of another creature you may spend 1 ki point to make a melee attack against that creature. Whenever you hit a creature with Shadow Strike you can impose one of the following effects to the target until the end of your next turn:

  • It must succeed on a CON save or take you monk's martial arts die of poison damage
  • It has disadvantage on its next saving throw it makes to maintain concentration on a spell
  • It must succeed a WIS save or become frightened

Shadow Clone

By 11th level, you have learned to become one with the shadows.

When you are in an area of dim light or darkness, you can use your action to create a Shadow twice per short rest that last for 10 min for 3 ki points. You can spend an additional 3 ki points to create additional shadows. You can also spend 2 additional ki points to extend the duration to 1 hour.

At 17th level, you can instead summon a shadow assassin for 6 ki points. You can spend 3 ki points to extend the duration. You can spend 6 additional ki points for another shadow assassin.

Shadow Master

At 17th level, you can spend 6 ki points to cast Shadow Weapon, Multi-Shadow Strike, or Mislead.
