July 10th, 2018
Greetings D&D-er's!
After a few days of catching our breaths over the July 4th holiday week, we're back at it! This change-log covers multiple changes and bug fixes that have been deployed over the past few days:
Changes:
Condition descriptions are now available in the character sheet side bar (and there'll be another update soon for managing the levels of exhaustion).
Update to the login system. We have finally been able to make an update to the login mechanism that provides two main benefits. One, being able to select a different Twitch account to log in with, and two, removing the requirement for having third-party cookies enabled. Now, when you log in, you'll be sent to this login page:
The process now uses Twitch's Passport system, and as such you will be redirected to their page to confirm access:
On this page, there is a "Not You" link that you can click to login in with a different Twitch account, and then will be redirected back to D&D Beyond.
Fixes:
- Fixed a bug in copying homebrew spells with additional levels not properly copying modifier information
- Fixed views for subclasses and races to account for soft-deleted features and racial traits.
- Fix issue with viewing spell details in the character sheet for ritual spells
And we've got another round of UI updates coming this week for the character sheet, so stay tuned!
Happy dragon slaying!
RAGE!
The Dropped Bear twitches uncontrollably.
Cool, thanks.
Oh no, what have I done :(.... I am going to say that I've been so deep in the revamp for the past few months I need a mulligan. I'll bring this one up though as I missed filcat's surfacing of this because of previously stated revamp blinders :)
I’m rather new to D&D; perhaps someone can explain the logic behind Devil’s Sight not functioning in dim light.
I read the above links and can see it’s the rule, but it doesn’t make sense to me.
Thanks.
Basically, Your Devil's Sight doesn't do anything for Dim Light - meaning you are still at disadvantage on Perception checks. If you were to have Darkvision, you treat dim light as bright light. SO it mainly means those without Darkvision but with Devil's Sight would have slight mechanic changes in Dim Light conditions. I know Dropbear and others can probably explain it better than I can.
Also, with Devil's Sight, you see in full color when in the dark, whereas with Darkvision you see in grey-scale.
Thanks!
Not sure how, but this update has "broken" one of my homebrew items - shpadoinkle is based on an instrument on the bards, and should use the casters casting ability to work out its spell DCs, however on my bard (Paedur) it is using WIS instead of CHA to calculate the DCs
1. Love the new character sheet and the fact you can now make sheets for homebrew classes!
2. Bug: noticed that the SPEED display sometimes goes to 5 speed for everything regardless of what you have and once it does so., it doesn't seem to want to change back.Even if you use the CUSTOMIZE dropdown and specify a speed, which will show up under customize, the display still gives all 5's. Not sure what causing it, but wanted to let you know.
2 . Change your encumbrance setting for that character to NO Encumbrance. Unless of course your campaign enforces encumbrance settings, in which case start dumping stuff as you cannot carry it!
Love that I can see all of my spells at once and don't have to toggle between spell levels if I don't want to!
THANKS!
Thanks. That was the issue. The sheet doesn't allow you to specify which items are being carried by your pack animal. Might be a nice option to add.
We definitely have tickets in the system to enhance the equipment section with things such as containers. This would allow you to turn off weight for those items being applied to your personal weight calculations.
As another workaround, right now you could customize the weight of items on your pack animal to 0. It isn't ideal, but should accomplish what you are trying to do, without turning off encumbrance rules.
It would also be nice to be able to specify the range of custom weapons so that we can make things like sprite shortbows (range 40/160) and giant longbows (R250/1000).
I use Safari on my iPad and every time I try to zoom in it flips me to this very basic stats page. Or it changes the format from horizontal to vertical for no reason, and whenever I touch it after this it changes. Is there anyway I can work around this and have the ability to zoom in on my character sheet without the format switching? (I have also tried this on Chrome, but I don’t have the ability to zoom in at all through that browser.)
While the merged actions tab looks way better now, I still have some grief with the spells view. When viewing "All" spells, please please please remove extra copies of the same spell on higher levels. Having all first level spells appear four times for a tenth level wizard, and having 12 entries in the 4th level slots albeit I only have 2 prepared makes it very hard to use. I would even suggest moving spells granted by items to their own section, since they are not using the same spell slots anyway... With a wand of magic missiles and a wand of lightning bolt, 27 spells known and 12 spells prepared, I have 51 entries in the spells list.
51.
Let me write it again, like the spells are repeated over and over again in the view.
51.
That is over 4 times as much as I should see. Almost twice as many as the spells that are in my spell book.
Update: I counted cantrips as prepared spells (and I realised I had two more spells to prepare) so I updated the numbers.
One more about the Action tab: it is nice that Attack actions are filtered to the attacks; but could anything that applies to attacks (sneak attack, divine smite, stunning fist, etc.) also grouped there?
Technically if someone can "see normally in darkness" (as per description), I would grant that to dim light too, because it does not make much sense to me that in full darkness and in full light you can see fine, but between those two you are hindered. Still, it does not stack with Darkvision of any source.
I personally agree, and that is how I would rule it in game.
Devils’s Sight is supposed to be an eerie, Eldritch Power. By making it work with only darkness (as it is the only light type stated), it lends itself to the unnatural and “devilish”.
