I think I broke the site by trying to manage equipment. I'm just stuck with a D&D Beyond screen and a spinning circle.

Ported a character over from my paper copy. For some reason it selected proficiency for a skill that I did not select. Since we do not have a dedicated skills page I am not able to go in and deselect the skill. It would be helpful if there was a skills page in the character build section. For skills that are automatically selected due to class or background they could be highlighted then the player would be given a number of skills they could then choose. Thanks for all the hard work this looks very promising.
I think a lot of the spinning screens is server load. Not to get too web design / coding technical... There's a lot of us here now and that's great! They're probably on an in house server located in their office. I'd imagine they'll migrate to an Amazon farm when things get a lil' more real.
Glad to see the Builder. I shudder to think of all the feedback your're going to have to sort through after the weekend/holiday! A few observations after making one character in no particular order...
If you choose a higher level, you can't remove XP or reduce the level.
When you choose "Basic Rules" as your source for races, it includes races from the SRD.
Rogue Expertise does not allow for the selection of Thieves' Tools.
On the Ability Scores page, I suggested making the "Total Score" bold or otherwise highlighted for ease of use.
I think Background should be at the top of the Description page, since it influences the Personal Characteristics.
It lists the Traits, Flaws, etc. for your Background, but doesn't let you just click on one to choose it.
The standard equipment option does not just put the equipment in your inventory.
Background Equipment doesn't automatically appear in inventory.
I chose skills for my class, that were also provided by the Background. There should be an alert to let you know this (or change the order so you chose skills/tools after choosing Race, Class, and Background)
I would like the option to add a tool proficiency to the Skill list -- you may not need to know your bonus with Carpenter's Tools often, but Thieves' Tools comes up a lot (and who am I to judge if your campaign involves a ton of carpentry?)
I realize it would be a major change -- and a departure from the flow of the PH -- but perhaps your should pick your Race, Class, and Background before you make any other selections. This would be useful when picking skills, equipment, and ability scores.
Unable to create a character from start to finish. Something always hangs or blows up. Trying to add spells is especially bad. I've been very excited about this tool for the past several months. Very disappointed about its current state. Will check back in a few weeks, hopefully it will work by then.
I'd really like to have the option to upload my own character portrait in the future, any plans on that?
That sounds like a great addition to the character sheets. I don't know whether it's something that is planned, but please keep posting all suggestions & ideas! :)
I just created a character in less than five minutes – great stuff!
One thing I noticed as a nice to have, is at the end of the character creation work out to equipment, and it listed the equipment auctions your character would receive based on class/race/background, it would be great to be able to just quickly indicate which of that equipment you chose, and be automatically added to the character sheet. As it stands right now, I had to search for each item, and add it manually.
It didn't completely slow down the process, but a point and click option would be great in my opinion. Thanks!
Nice idea - making it much quicker and easier to select a standard equipment package.
It's possible someone already mentioned these things, but I'm not gonna read all the comments, so here's my preliminary feedback:
I made a level 1 human paladin noble.
The character sheet at the end isn't adding proficiency to my attacks.
"Holy symbol" wasn't a searchable phrase in the equipment list. I had to specifically type in "amulet."
I would love to be able to choose equipment instead of typing in and searching each piece from the list hidden behind the equipment adding pop-up box.
I chose Persuasion in my Paladin skills and then got it again from Noble background, but I should be able to replace duplicates with any skill proficiency, as the rules say. I should also be able to create a custom background.
Personality traits, ideals, bonds, flaws: I know that your background lists the suggested ones at the bottom of the page, but I'd like to be able to select the ones associated with the background instead of typing them in, copy/pasting, or whatever. But ALSO include the option to write one in and edit existing ones.
Being able to quickly select a default "equipment package" would be a great addition. :)
I think overall the only change I'd really want is for Background to show up earlier in the process. Probably actually do.. RACE / BACKGROUND / CLASS just cuz of the potential skill overlap. For example if you make a Half-Elf Rogue a player can accidentally choose Slight of Hand 3 times and I didn't see a corrective text to keep me from doing this.
On Backgrounds, I'd like to see the bonds / flaws / etc able to be randomized and then edited after. I think that'd be something pretty easy to add and probably would be, but figured I'd mention it anyway.
The Equipment Manager's great. Obvious addition I'll state obviously is for the class & background equipment to auto populate the inventory. Such as choice between rolling coinage vs buying an Explorer's kit. Then having the weapons, armor choice, and rope + odds and ends throw in and 10 gp to look at. That'll help speed up an obviously tedious part of play and maybe bring back the art form of inventory management to players.
Or so says my 2 coppers. <3 it all.
I understand what you mean about the backgrounds - I found myself getting to the point of selecting a background and then heading back to change the proficiencies that I selected from my class.
You can totally do this though - move back and forth through the different stages of character generation.
Being able to speed up the bonds / flaws etc is an interesting idea.
Please be assured that, the staff are working on resolving issues they are aware of and will work through all of these.
They massively appreciate all of you taking the time to test this and positively feedback on your experience and any problems encountered. <3
Just entered my first character. Great work, guys! You've sure been busy!
The main issue I've run into is when choosing starting equipment. After choosing from the search screen, I'm getting hung on the spinner. If I go to My Character screen from main nav, my changes are there. Upon searching again, and then closing, I get hung up again on the loading spinner.
The character builder would not let me add Weapons or items after adding chainmail, my first. Yesterday id did not let me add ability scores after my first and I hit refresh and it kickedm me out of the program and would not let me back on for a few hours. THen when AI was opening the character builder, characters other than mine were there. Today my character is there.
Please revise the display of the character sheet for desktop. The phone-sized panels make the character sheet frustrating to read on a desktop. I have a 27" monitor and my browser at full screen but to read a 3 paragraph class feature I have to scroll a tiny 3 inch box.
It would be worse on a tablet. If I'm on my iPad at the game table trying to read a class feature out of that little box would be very frustrating. Just use full page popups (that can actually be dismissed on a touch screen). It's really nice using those on a desktop (not on a tablet where they don't go away).
Aside from the numerous bugs people are finding, this tools fails miserably in several ways:
1 - Can't print a character sheet. Seriously, this is the most important feature. How do you overlook this? WHAT GOOD IS A CHARACTER GENERATOR THAT CANNOT PRINT A CHARACTER
2 - No way to export the data for use in roll20 or other 3rd parties. You wanna be the online tool of choice, this has to happen.
3 - Can't play from the character sheet. Stuff you'd want to track like hps isn't on one handy page, it's hidden behind 4 clicks in nesting menus. And for F%*@'s sake, if you're gonna pretend like you're tracking hps and have a long rest button, why is there no dice roller?

Nice to see the character builder separately, and this shit looks shiny. Seriously, the UI looks very polished.
CB feedback:
On the abilities screen, while doing point buy, after I set the scores to 10, 13, 13, 12, 12, 14, and everything was fine, with a nice total updated to zero. Then, without switching screen or anything, I tried to modify the Str down to 8 and raise Wis and Int to 13. It would let me, but it only updated the point total for lowering the Str. And it left the point modification text next to Wis and Int. When I navigate away from that screen and come back, it show that I still have two points to spend, with Int and Wis still at 12.
When choosing skill proficiencies from class, background, and race, it would be nice to see what choices I've already made elsewhere.
Can't open one of my character sheets anymore. Happened after multiclassing from rogue to rogue/bard and started adding spells. When I open the sheet the loading animation starts and eventually times out with the below error message. My two other characters seem to work fine.

Another issue - I went to edit a character and seem to have had some account cross-over and ended up with another users character list.

Not seeing Drow as an available race in character builder. Thoughts? Thanks!

I stand corrected on item 1. My bad.
How about items 2 and 3? I didn't see anything regarding those.
Also, anything about AL support?
It would also be nice if the Equipment UI allowed me to easily add the initial equipment choices from my class and background.

Working sporadically on entering my first PC. Just noticed proficiency bonus is not being included in the attack modifier for my glaive.
Am a Dragonborn Paladin 2/Warlock 1 with 16 STR. Is just showing +3 atk mod for glaive.
Is showing the appropriate +5 atk mod for eldritch blast (also 16 CHA)
