I hope that as we start adding cool options to break RAW that we hide them away on some master page so the dials and levers don't confuse new players and new DMs, not to mention those who usually play RAW and don't need any of those options.

I'm conflicted on whether or not to suggest that the character builder should upsell on unowned stuff better- for example, by displaying all 'locked' character options separately and underneath the unlocked ones, and clearly indicating that that content is not available under the SRD and therefore needs a separate purchase if they attempt to use/view it.
On the one hand, it'd add a lot of clutter to the builder for people who don't want to see that/are uninterested in making that purchase, and could scare off people who are unhappy with the relative amount they have unlocked for free. On the other hand (if some posts on these forums are any indication), it'd save lots of confusion from people who are wondering where certain options are and direct them to how to unlock that content.

Yup. For the most part, I know what I want and that's what I want to see. However, the first time I try to create a hobgoblin PC, I actually rather want to know that it's in Volo's, rather than either starting from scratch or having to search around to find it.
I think my ideal would be to just have content I own or share show up for the Character Builder. In the Compendium, I'd like to see the stuff I own listed first, with additional content below a horizontal rule or something similar. Worst case is what we have now, where it's all in-line. (OK, even worse would be to have the stuff I don't own listed first, but I don't see that happening.) At a minimum, I'd like to have the un-owned content show up with a different color border/highlight.
Hmm... Something I just realized.... I don't see the subclasses from the SCAG, at all. Not sure how to react to that. On the one hand, I really want things like classes/subclasses from sources I own (say, the UA Ranger and Favored Soul, assuming those show up in XGtE) to show up seamlessly in the Compendium -- completely fluid in how they show up. On the other hand, there's likely to be free content that I don't want to see, at all -- say the previous two versions of the UA Ranger. Looking forward, I don't really want to see Dragonmark feats when I'm running a Greyhawk campaign or Dark Sun backgrounds in Eberron. And, I really don't want to see Realms material anywhere. So... what's the best way to work that?

Definitely on our minds!
I was jealous seeing the pictures of you and your developers at PAX West and playing at WoTC HQ! I know you probably can't say but would you say there is a good chance of an update coming tomorrow? You can't hate me for trying. ;)
Hey, quick note: When I access https://www.dndbeyond.com/my-content/characters, I see that I have CHARACTER SLOTS: 15/Unlimitied. I figure someone is about to find it and correct the spelling of 'Unlimited', but here's my post about it.

Developer spelling...fixed for the next deploy, which will be tonight. Not sure if you guys were aware or not, but Tomb of Annihilation is about to get added.

Best workaround I can think of is a small greyed-out padlock at the end of the list of spells/races/backgrounds, etc.
If you don't see the thing you're looking for on the list, clicking the padlock expands the list to show all the content you don't own. Hovering over the locked item on the list shows a tooltip with the book it comes from, and clicking takes you to the marketplace. Clicking literally anything else on your browser collapses the list again.

Good idea. It would, of course, disappear if you own everything.

when you say next deploy is that mean that tonight is the night ? the revamp is getting deploy ? or its just couple bug fix and Tomb of the annihilation adventure ?
I'm not sure if this has been brought up before. Items such as the "healers kit" have charges, but You cannot track them on the item in your inventory. Would be nice to be able to take a charge off each time it is used to accurately reflect the remaining charges.

It's been mentioned several times, but not recently.

Tonight is prep for ToA - the revamp is still not quite ready. For Backgrounds, we've had to rewrite an entire system. We'll be working through the weekend to see when we can get it out.
More info on the full short-term roadmap very soon...I'll host a fireside/ Q&A stream within the next couple of weeks.

ToA is launching on time though, correct? Or is it being delayed as well?

thanks for letting us know the status of the revamp.
i'm sorry to hear that you had to redo an entire system and you will have to work during the weekend. But i'm happy to see you and your team are so devoted to this and pushing hard to get us the best possible tools . keep the good work.

Ditto. Good luck with the ToA release prep, and then the revamp for Backgrounds and such.

I actually agree with this sentiment and we do well with this at our company - the team truly wants to work on this since we wanted it to come out sooner.
i.e. They'll be working on it as "fun," not a job. I'm not a vicious taskmaster that's making them do it. :P

So… about that. Any idea what time/timezone we can expect it to go live?

It would be nice to have the range properties for weapons in the character sheet. ex Crossbow, Hand (range 30/120)
