I do not believe Homebrew content is currently slated for tooltip functionality at this time. Could this be revisited at a later date for reexamination? Certainly.
Don't mean to resurrect a dead thread, but I would also really appreciate this functionality. I made a homebrew spell for a homebrew monster, and I'd like to tooltip the spell in its actions.
As a web developer, I can appreciate the difficulty of making it work. Perhaps putting the URL slug for the homebrew content inside the tag instead of just the name?
SK's pretty much correct. It is on my list of improvements for Homebrew, it's just somewhat further down the list.
There are some usability considerations we have to work through, like, what if you tooltip a private spell on a published monster? What do we display to users that don't have access to your private homebrew? Do we limit homebrew tool-tipping to published works only? And the inclusion of homebrew will require some rework to an upcoming plugin to the Editor that allows you to select items and will insert the tooltip for you, so I have to account for that time requirement as well.
None of this is terribly difficult from a technical perspective, mind you, it's just not at the top of our list, atm. And yes, the tag inserted for a homebrew item will be it's unique slug.
That is a good idea. Another thing cool would be if you made a homebrew spell or something for an allready created maonster, there could be a section underneath for variants, other actions/abilitys, or something else.
I had let this rest because there are obviously more important things in line (like the sheet!), but I'll use this now-undead thread to point out that the further my group advances into my campaign, the more I wish I could tooltip homebrew things (usually to link homebrew spells into homebrew items).
I wonder if others feel the same, and if it's worth a slight bump up the list.
Just got stuck on same issue and found this thread. Finding it hard to get any value from homebrew when you cannot link between items. I guess a wiki somewhere will do better.
*sigh* Really liked DNDb until I bumped into this one.
Hope this feature comes at least for homebrew campaign stuff. Like i only want it for the players in my campaign. I have no idea of web developing but a option wich adds your own unpublished homebrew spells/items to the tooltip list does sound possible? Maybe?
Do homebrew things have the same handling of inline tooltips as the official things?
In fact, I'll check (strict alphabetical priority at the time of this post :p )
Spell: [Tooltip Not Found]
Magic Item: [Tooltip Not Found]
Monster: [Tooltip Not Found]
Aw.
Apparently not. Will you automate this?

It's pretty unlikely, due to the database gymnastics that would be required to make it work.
Just the sheer amount of homebrew spells/items/monsters would make it slow things down a LOT.
There's also an issue to overcome of items not having unique names and multiple versions of the same item/spell/monster.
As Sedge said previously, one of the staff may come up with a cunning way of implementing this in the future, so it's not an impossibility.

It's a matter of content/feature prioritisation I expect.
Just think of all the Campaign Management features that would improve the site measurably.
Adding homebrew tooltips is "nice to have" and "difficult to implement" which has to rank it far down the list of things to do.

I am looking to add 'Grasping Vine' as a spell to an item, but it is not showing up as a selection in the 'add spell' edit section of item creation.
any reason it is left out?
maybe due to it being a bonus/concentration?
I switched to using url tags now, doesn't give the pop-up, but allows navigation.

Any update on this possibly happening?
Please don’t necro threads. And no, I’ve not heard an update on this.
